Chances of getting in the University of Delaware

Whar are my chances of getting into the University of Delaware? (My SATs were terrible)

GRADES:

3.2 GPA (High School)

Top 30% of Class

101 of 375

(Yes, I took some advanced courses)

SAT’s:

Verbal: 420

Math: 350

Writing: 390

EXTRACURRICULAR:

Class Vice President

FBLA President

Editor-in-Chief, School Newspaper

Thanks for any help!

Not good.

*SAT’s:

Verbal: 420
Math: 350
Writing: 390*

UDel rejects over 40% of applicants. You have the same situation here as you do with UPitt.

With your stats, you need to come up with a list that will work for you.

What is your home state?

Will your parents pay $35k-50k per year for wherever you get in?

Test Scores
Middle 50% of First-Year Students

SAT Critical Reading: 520 - 630
SAT Math: 540 - 650
SAT Writing: 520 - 640
ACT Composite: 24 - 28

My home state is Pennsylvania. And thank you for helping me by the way. I am trying to come up with a good list but the only thing I can think of is Community College and I really don’t want to go to a community college. I want to go to a place I can spend 4 years happily.

20k is my limit by the way.

I would do some prep and re-take the SAT. There are some threads that talk about what kids on here on doing to improve their scores (don’t be thrown by the fact that many of them have incredible scores and you will wonder why they are bothering), so take a look at those threads. You might consider the ACT as an alternative.

Agreed not good. To put it in perspective; I was wait-listed at Udel with;

3.4 GPA
Verbal: 700
Math:580

I would attribute this to being an out of stater. Also I just graduated college so this was a little bit of time ago. However I would recommend taking however much time you have ( I would imagine not a lot) and re-take the SATS. Prepping will effect your scores regarldess of what you’ve heard. Good Luck!

*20k is my limit by the way. *

that is going to be your limiting factor as well as your stats.

Most out of state publics do not give non-residents their financial aid to help cover their big non-resident costs. (UVA and UNC-CH do, but you don’t have the stats for those schools).

Out of state publics tend to cost about $35-50k per year, so most will not be affordable to you.

When you say “$20k is your limit”…do you mean that is how much your parents will pay? Or is that how much you can pay with funds from parents AND from you (savings/student loans)???

IF your parents will pay $20k and you take out a student loan each year, then maybe some SUNYs would be affordable for you.

Perhaps some here could recommend some SUNYs that will accept your stats.

How far from PA are you willing to go?

What is your intended major/career?

But, here’s a better suggestion…since you don’t test well…go to a CC for 2 years and get the best grades ever…then transfer to UPitt. :)

Leader101,

If your home state is PA, you have a lot of good and affordable options in the state university system. Everyone always thinks of Penn State, Pitt, and Temple for Pennsylvania, but there are 14 other state universities to choose from, all of them ranging from $13,000 to $18,000 per year for in-state students (which includes tuition and room and board!)

I think you could spend a happy four years at many of these schools.
