Hi, I’m a currently a senior in high school, class of 2016, and I currently have a GPA of 3.91(10-12W) and 3.67(10-12UW). I was wondering what would be my chances of getting into any of the UC’s posted above with an SAT score of 1400-1600. I currently go to one of the most underprivileged schools in my city, and our average SAT score is 1200. I believe my extracurricular is decent enough, but currently I am worrying about my SAT score and personal statement. What are my chances?
My friend that graduated 2015 was able to get accepted into UCLA with an SAT score 1400, and GPA of 3.6(10-12UW) So I’m wondering if that’s possible for me?
It is possible but not plausible when the average SAT score for UCLA is 2067, UCB is 2094, UCSB is 1937 and UCSD is 2035. Going to a low performing school will help your chances, but since your GPA is high and SAT is low, Adcoms may question grade inflation. Have you tried the ACT? I think the ACT is a more straight forward test and will test you on material you should have covered in your HS courses. I am no Adcom myself, but if you have excellent EC’s and essays, there is always a chance but I would not count on it. Apply broadly to many schools of different selectivity to ensure you have an acceptance(s) come spring. If you are determined to go to a UC, make sure you include UCR or UCM on your list. UCI and UCSC would also be possibilities since they like a high GPA but are more forgiving with test scores.
Check the common dataset or Freshman profile to see how many acceptances for low SAT:

UCLA shows about 3.6% with low SAT and probably many are recruited athletes and special circumstances.

UPDATE: So acceptance letters have came and I got my results.
My GPA for high school is a 3.72 UW 10-12 and my SAT total was 1350, ACT 21.
I got accepted into UCBerkeley with Undeclared Natural Resources,
UCIrvine undeclared
UCDavis & UCSanta Barbara with environmental studies.
I was rejected from UCLos Angeles and UCSan Diego.
@Phvncy Congrats! May I ask, were you surprised with the results?
I was not so surprised with UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine.
I was more surprised of how I was rejected by UC LA and UC SD.
UC Berkeley’s acceptance was a bit of a shocker, but then it is pretty common for students from my school to get into Cal with low test scores and GPA.
My friend got into UCLA with 4 Cs on her transcript, thus why I was surprised why I was rejected considering we had similar test scores and extra curricular activities.
