Chances of getting in?

Okay so I am only a freshman in high school so I know I have time and everything but I really like this school and I have some questions.

 1. I have had voice lessons since I was in 6th grade and I’m going to have them up until college so do you think my voice will be good enough by the time auditions come along? Iv’e had main parts in musicals before but I don’t know if I’m an amazing singer or anything. I would say I’m good but not like WOW
 2. dancing is my strongest point and I’ve been dancing since I was little. Will that help my chances of getting in or is dance not that important?
 3. as for acting…I’m learning and I think I’ll be alright by senior year. What is the best to have, acting, singing, or dancing?
 4. for any current students…how do you like it?

Wannabonbway - singing, acting, dancing are all important and you should work on all three. If you search the discussions, you’ll see most people will say singing is most important. You have time to develop in all three areas. One thing you didn’t mention though… is your grades. I can’t tell you how important having good grades are in the admissions decisions. The top schools have hundreds and hundreds of talented students auditioning. And hundreds of those students are extremely talented. Each school could fill their rosters many times over with the talent they see. That’s where your grades come in. Your grades show your dedication and intellect. I can almost guarentee that schools will choose the prospective student with the higher grades for admissions if talent and type are similar. So along with your talent development…make sure your are getting very good grades in high school.

Hi! Im a rising senior musical theater major. At cmu we dont differentiate between ou acting and musical theater majors, so we mostly focus on the acting component here. That doesn’t mean we neglect the other two because we don’t we have incredible vocal and dance faculty, but it’s about the acting and how to apply it to the other principles. Dance isn’t a make or break component to our program. I’ve been told we look for trainability and not perfectly polished gems. Keep doing what you’re doing, it can only help you. And as the poster stated above keep up your grades. The assessment is correct. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Thank you so much for the advice! And as for the grades thing, I’m a pretty good student, all honor classes and all A’s, BUT I am only a freshman so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to have straight A’s for the rest of high school. Hopefully though!
