Chances of Getting In.

Hey,

I am curious of my chances of getting into the University of Connecticut. I visited the campus last summer and am applying by the December 1st admission date(almost finished). Here are my credentials.

GPA:
Freshman - 87
Sophomore - 88
Junior - 92
Senior - 95 (Currently)
Mostly Honors and AP Classes

AP Exams:
Chemistry - 3
Physics - 3
Biology - 4
English - 4

Preferred Major:
Chemistry w/ premedical minor

Extra Curriculars:
3 Years Habitat for Humanity
2 years STAND Club
1 year LEO club
Worked at Wegman's Junior Year
4 years soccer (1 varsity)
3 years spring & winter track (3 years varsity)

What are my chances?

Also, how do I calculate my GPA on a 4.0 scale. My school has a 7 point grading system so a 92 is a B+ instead of an A-. Will this make any difference at all?

Impossible to chance until you have taken the SAT or ACT.

Sorry, SAT 1850/2400
Math 640/800
CR 610/800
Writing 600/800

SAT II:
Chem 610/800

So overall, do you have a B+ average?

It’s inbetween. On most grading systems an A- but at my school B+

I would call it a reach. Your SAT’s are average and your GPA is on the low side. If you are from Connecticut you have a better shot.

You have an average chance.

Also I am applying as a chemical engineer major.

Also how about University of Maryland? University of Delaware? University of South Carolina? Rutgers New Brunswick?

Maryland is much harder to gain entry than Uconn. The other school are a good match. Good luck

How about UPitt, UMass and Penn State

I’m confused…

UCONN has a 50% acceptance rate. the information that I just looked up on college view says that UCONN is a selective school…maybe I’m wrong, but if a school accepts half of its applicants… is it really selective?? Why wouldn’t OP get in??? I think he/she has a good shot!!!

UConn has also increased class size, which affects the acceptance rate. In addition, the acceptance rate includes all campuses.

But if you look up UConn, Storrs on Naviance it does accept over 50% itself. That of coarse doesn’t mean even close to 50% of applicants actually attend.

We are OOS and my sons attended a very competitive high school - when I look at the UConn scattegram, the cutoff for early acceptances at their school seems to be 1800 SAT and 3.5 GPA. For regular decision it is more like 1900 and 3.7. So, for OOS in particular, UConn is pretty darned selective. A few are accepted below, but these are the averages I see.

@ mum, when I visited UConn a week ago they said competitive applicants are between 3.3 and 3.7 GPA. Their average SAT is about 1820. I also go to a very competitive HS(#1 public school in south jersey). When I look at the scattergram for my school people are accepted with as low as 1700 SAT and 88 (3.3) GPA. When I was at UConn they said one of the most important parts of the application is your personal statement and essay. The tour guide said it is how they get a feel for what kind of student you are and how you would benefit their school. The campus was very nice as well. Just some info for you. When you say “cut off” do you mean everyone above that point was accepted?

you could most definitely get in. I got in and im OOS and my SAT is a 1740 and i had a weighted GPA of 3.4…

@Vapperss what were your EC’s like and do you play sports at a competitive level?

i played football and track my 9th grade year but i couldnt continue due to injury… and i was in no way shape or form competitive… i was 2nd string running back and an average sprinter. im thinking they accepted me because i was probably the only person in my whole school that applied there (i also had a sick essay). also my family is from africa so i mentioned how im the first to be born in america.

Solid chance ED but not for Honors… good luck…

Also UCONN is harder to get into than UMD… note Philosopher point about ALL CAMPUSes are in stats …
