Chances of getting in

Hi. I am a freshman at mt sac cc in California. I was hoping you could help me answer a question I have. I am very interested in political science and business. I wanted to know if politics is a good major or if I should do business. I also would like to transfer to Ucla or UCB. I also wanted to know if I had a chance of getting accepted as a transfer student I currently have a 3.5 and am hoping to raise it but we will see how that goes maybe to a 3.7. Just let me know poli sci vs business and if I have a chance at UCB or Ucla thanks

There is no right answer to which is “better” between political science and business. They’re just different disciplines. What is it you hope to do after college? What interests you about the two majors? Have you had any courses in either major, and if so how did they go?

Keep in mind that to move a 3.5 after one semester to a 3.7 requires a 3.9 in that one semester. That may or may not be realistic.

It’s hard to say what your chances are with either a 3.5 or a 3.7. Neither school publishes grade distributions related to transfer admissions (that I see anyway). Both only admit about 20-25% of transfer applicants, which suggests an incredibly competitive environment. I think your chances are certainly greater than zero, so I wouldn’t hesitate to apply. The only way you’ll know is to apply.

Good luck.
