Chances of getting in?

I used to live in the United States but moved to India so I could live with my grandparents after being in the foster care system for one year. I am in the IB program and I am doing quite well academically. I wanted to be a doctor my whole life but when my mother died theatre and singing helped me get through the pain and I ended up falling in love with it. However my love for theatre came to me in my sophomore year of high school. :frowning:
I have never been in a musical before but I have been in a play. I know I am REALLY behind everyone else competing to get in FSU MT. But I am an extremely hardworking person, I am doing well in school, I am really passionate. My voice is decent but I am a better actor than I am singer. I just wanted to get an honest opinion of my chances. I know it is slim to none but I just thought I would ask.

Hello,
There is really no way for me to give you any feedback regarding your chance for acceptance because there are so many factors that are considered during the selection process. With the comment you made above; that you are a better actor then a singer, you might want to consider auditioning for BFA Acting programs that allow you to also take private voice.

Last year FSU narrowed down to 800 from prescreens. They took a total of 12 from the 800. It is a highly competitive program.

Are those numbers correct at @All4FSU? Did you really have MORE than 800 prescreens? Or was that your total and you cut from there? 800 is an awful lot of auditions to hold at the school. Yikes! I understand if you are not at liberty to say, but that just sounds like it might be wrong.

Tramsmom-
Those numbers are nowhere close. I honestly don’t remember how many prescreens we had last year, but we make 240 audition appointments every year. We have six days of auditions and there are 40 appointments per day. As I recall, after late cancellations and no-shows we ended up seeing about 220. We admit 14-18 to yield a class of 8-10. (The target number is a class of 8, but we sometimes end up with 9 or 10.)

I hop this helps- and thank you for bringing this to my attention. It’s always better to have accurate information out there!

Your very welcome at @All4FSU, I appreciate your prompt reply and setting us all straight!

Thanks for the helpful information. This process is much more confusing then for my oldest. My younger daughter really wants to go to FSU for a BFA in MT. I see that you have 240 audition spots. How many people typically apply? How competitive is it to make it through prescreen? Thanks!
