Chances of getting in

Hello,

I am a rising senior, in the International Baccalaureate Program. All throughout high school, I have taken the most rigorous course load possible, with all honors Freshman and Sophomore year and all AP/IB and one honors(Math) Junior year. I believe I’m going to end up with straight Bs in my classes, with the possibility of Math being a 79 (All of these are for the year, final grades). Throughout the year, in individual quarters, I’ve gotten a few A’s mostly B’s, however in Quarter 3, possibly due to stress and burning out, I received 3 C’s. My weighted GPA for the year is around 3.94, due to the weight of of my AP/IB classes. On the SAT, I received a 1990 (710 CR, 640 M, 640 W), for a 1350/1600.

My ECs consist of Varsity Tennis, and Speech and Debate team.

Will Maryland take into account the rigor and difficulty of my courses? In hindsight, I feel as if I could’ve done a bit better, but I felt as if I was consistently challenged and stretched to my limit all throughout high school. Also, if I were to really get in gear and ensure my first quarter Senior grades are really high, would that make a significant difference? I plan on applying by the ED deadline, Nov. 1.

Thanks in advance

I’ve made a mistake, I will most likely be receiving an A in one of my IB courses(TOK) for the year.

Also, I’m in-state.

I got in with worse grades than that. Got B’s and C’s fr/so year. However second semester junior year and first semester senior year I got straight A’s (didn’t take APs lol). I also had a really high ACT. I may have just gotten lucky. I am out of state though, and some people think that it is easier to get in out of state.

They will take the rigor of your courses into account, but there will be many applicants who took just as difficult of courses and did better. There will also be people who get in who did worse. There’s a decent amount of luck involved. Doing better your first quarter will help, but won’t offset everything. Retaking the SAT and getting a higher score might help a tiny bit. Also make sure your essay is really good, get an english teacher or someone to look it over for you (not just for grammar, but for content).
