Chances of getting in?

I’ve been researching colleges and UCSB has become very high on the list of schools that I want to go to.
My SAT score is an 1840 with a 630 in math, 640 in critical reading and a 570 in writing (though I do plan on retaking it to try and get a higher score). I also have a weighted GPA of 3.71. I volunteer at my library, am an honor student, play competitive soccer and live in the state of California.
What do you think my chances would be? Even if I have the smallest chance of getting in, it’s better than no chance right?

I’d say you have a chance, but Santa Barbara is becoming really popular and competitive. The UC’s really look for high GPA and high scores, and thats really the only way to guarantee you get in.

You need to calculate your UC GPA:

Your weighted GPA and SAT score are below the average for UCSB. Write some great esaays and you might have a better chance.
UCSB: Low Reach

With your stats, UCSB is pretty unlikely. If you add 100+SAT points and nail your essays, it may happen but, you’ll still be a long-shot. I encourage your to apply but, please apply broadly.

Good luck

A 3.71 weighted GPA is rather low, and certainly would have made it really difficult for you to get into UCSB or any mid-high tier UC this year(emphasis on “this year”).

However, based on the additional funding the UC system has received not too long ago(can look it up), I would say you have a shot(not a good shot, but a shot), at UCSB, since the UCs are looking to increase instate admissions. Please retake the SAT and try to get a higher score as it will improve your chances.

Compare your stats to the average and strive to be at or above the averages posted for the best chances.
