My test scores are not that great but I have something which sets me apart. I founded my own business at age 11 and have been running it ever since. I grossed $35k in sales last year and have been part of many extracurriculars pertaining to this. In addition I do some community service and am part of some clubs. ACT 28 GPA 3.7. I am taking October ACT and will hopefully get 30. I will send senior year report card with 4.2 GPA. What do you guys think my chances of getting in are?
You’re not getting with those grades and scores.
@dsss643 Your scores might be a potential issue but Penn and Stanford are the two top ten schools known for wanting entrepreneurial people even if their standardized test scores are not amazing. But both of these schools value high school GPA a lot. As i said your scores are a potential issue. What do u expect ( realistically) your gpa to be at the time you report it to Penn? Also an ACT above 30 would help a lot. At the end of the day tho the main thing that can set you apart is how impressive your business is. Make sure you work a lot on presenting it the best way you can in your application. Did you make any profit? How much has it grown since you started? Overall i think you stand a chance, if your whole business thing is impressive enough. Ur scores might not be that good but not many people can say they founded a company that is actually doing well. And specifically Penn finds this kind of people very attractive.
My GPA my first quarter of senior year should be around a 4.3. And to answer your other questions, yes I have mad a profit (around $9,000) and yes we have grown tremendously from around $13,000 to $35,000 the next year.
@dsss643 what is your unweighted GPA?
During senior year it will be 3.6
yeah that could be a bit of a problem since the average GPA of the incoming class is a 3.94, and Penn does care a lot about GPA. That said, the fact that you have a successful business has the potential to set u apart.
