I took one honors class junior year and got a b and currently taking ap physics rn and I have a b+. I took Spanish 4 years. And my sat is a 1230 and I plan on getting at least a 26 on the act. I am apart of many clubs 1 that is about my culture 1 honor society and 3 leadership programs. I also played basketball and plan on playing volleyball. I want to know my chances of getting into sdsu, chapman, csu Long Beach, Pepperdine, and uc Irvine. Tips are welcome as well! Thx!
I am of Latino descent and a first generation college applicant.
For the Cal states, they use an eligibility index calculation to rank applicants (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR).
Your EI is 4030.
For SDSU, you want an EI of 4100 to be competitive but worth an application but a slight Reach.
For CSULB, an EI of 4000+ will make you competitive so a Match school. Add Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, Sonoma State, Chico State and/or San Francisco State to your list for Match schools.
For UCI, your GPA is below the 25th percentile of 3.93 and UC’s are very GPA focused. The UC’s also look at your HS course rigor which is lacking. Is this due to no opportunities to take AP classes being not available or you just did not take advantage? UCI would be a Reach. You might to add UC Riverside or Merced where you would have a better chance. Also the California publics (UC’s/Cal states) banned affirmative action so race is not considered. First generation can help.
UCI Freshman profile;
GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students
High School GPA:3.93 - 4.22
ACT Composite Score:25 - 32
SAT Critical Reading:530 - 670
SAT Mathematics:590 - 740
You do not state your intended major but both Pepperdine and Chapman will also be a slight Reach based on your stats but having good LOR’s and essays may help you.
Good Luck.
The UC’s and Cal States do not use affirmative action to admit students. It is against the law in California for public universities to admit according to race. Pepperdine and Chapman are private, so you might get an advantage there, but both are very expensive.
Agree with @Gumbymom in that your test scores and GPA are “low” for the UCI. You may want to try Riverside and UCSC.
SDSU and Long Beach will be tough; they are extremely popular and competitive.
UCI, Pepperdine Chapman and SDSU, probably not. Long Beach, probably. I’d add a couple of CSUs, maybe Fullerton, Sonoma or Chico depending on what you are looking for in your college experience.
