Chances Of getting in

Hey hey
Im Current Junior in HighSchool in Atlanta. I was trying to see my chances of getting into BU. I am hopefully going to major in Biomedical Engineering…
Current GPA: 3.0 , I should be at a 3.3-3.4 At the end of my senior year…Im currently in AP Psychology and Honors French…But I heard we are no longer receiving extra credit for Honors classes. I was born in Libya (African American) so I am considered a part of a minority (Better chances?) I play soccer for my highschool, french club, key club, and help with fundraisers around with area…Im currently taking SAT classes and I am also scheduled to take the SAT soon…Hopefully I can get a really good score! Its either BU or GT (Georgia Tech)…What do you think of my chances?

Kind of hard to say without an SAT. BU loves international students, then again..every school would love an African born prospective student. Your gpa is a bit low, you have 3 semesters to get it to be around a 3.5.

I will also have many teacher reccomandations (Including a professor from Georgetown - 10year professor)

Thats my unweighted GPA By the way...

Keep up the GPA, do well on the SATs and youll be fine. Can you pay the tuition or do you need finaid?

im afraid im going to have to have some finaid..does that lower my chances?

BU is need blind.

eh? BU is need blind?

My ass theyre need blind...Trust me, it's BS.

Well, they claim not to hold it against you. I think it's pretty true, they seem to just accept you and offer you no money.

so where do you guys think i need to be at on the SAT...what score would I need to get..

<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com%5B/url%5D">www.collegeboard.com</a></p>

THey'll give you acceptance rate and average SAT's.

Trust me Sibyl, they note it.

<a href="http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/class.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/class.html</a></p>

Here are the averages for the current Freshman class reflecting a 1260-1400 for mid range SATs for all 4 yr programs. Old SAT of course with a 1333 average SAT.This is for enrolled students not just those that are admitted which is always much higher. CGS of course is reflected as lower since its a two yr program for kids that are shy of admissions standards.

Schools like Bioengeneering, 7 yr Med Program and the University Professors Program will be on the very high range and supposedly COM and SMG are harder too. If your GPA is UW then you are in good shape. It will help to be a URM and from GA. Good luck and keep us posted.

But my weighted wouldnt be much differnt since These are the first of the honors/AP classes I have.

Your GPA will rise a little so that will help. You have a very good chance. BU has a high number of internationals but like many Northern schools they need more African Americans. The percentage is really low, around 3% or a little less, although in a huge school like BU thats a lot of students compared to 7% at a medium size college. If your SATs are decent BU will really want you and may offer more money because of that.

That just brightend up my day :)...My 1st shot on the SAT is on December 2nd..Hopefully I can get a 2000+ , I pretty much got the math hammered down on the review ,just working on the reading and essay..Well wish me luck! Dogs..I appreciate your help and will keep you guys posted on what happens..
