Chances of getting in

White male 3.6 gpa weighted, 750 Verbal, 640 Math, 700 Writing on SAT's.
Have taken 4 or 5 honors classes as well as 4 AP classes + taking 5 more AP classes this year. Scored a 3 on AP Euro, 4 on AP US, 5 on AP Environmental, and a 5 on AP English. Varsity cross country for 3 years, all county cross country for 3 years, captain for one year. National honor society member, also on Envirothon team. Community service done with habitat for humanity, as well as my church. Did not get application on time for priority admission. Wondering what my chances for UMD College Park are, thanks in advance.

decent chances, not a shoe in by any means. The gpa is low but youve taken a lot of ap's meaning your uw which you should have listed is low. Given the SAt's are very good but their avg GPA is about 3.9 weighted. Its competitive now plus since you didnt apply priority hurts. cant give chances since you didnt list instate or oos

wow what are you talking about... he has a very good chance...

I am in state, not sure of my unweighted gpa. The reason my gpa is only a 3.6 is that fresh and soph years werent too great, but junior year i had a 3.9. So far this year I have a 4.25 or so. Thanks for the input so far!

are you from western or eastern maryland by any chance? I talked to a rep and she said I might have a slight edge because I'm from a more rural area of maryland where they dont as many applicants

ur SAT is slightly above avarage and ur gpa is below average, it depends on how good ur essays and other stuff is. I think ur the average accepted applicant. The worst they could do is probably waitlist you or offer admission in the spring.

My brother (white male, in state) got in UMD two years ago with a 1260 SAT, about a 3.5 UW GPA, with virtually no ECs, and no AP classes. Given that, I would say you're basically in. However, they take about 76% of applicants in priority, so their standards could be higher for reg. decision. I still think your chances are good.

steve (and others)-- maryland's admission has definitely gotten tougher in the last two years. it's hard to compare standards now with standards then.
