Hey... Am a student from India. I was ranked the second best student in my year and the Best Girl Student with respect to academics, extra curriculars etc... I am in the top 5 students of my class and I am extremely interested in Biology and Calculus.... Though we dont have AP systems here, I have taken up Advanced Level Biology, and done a research project on Ferritin Gene Expression in one of the leading Research Labs of India....I have also done paper presentations on ecology, and environment friendly schemes for the school.... I have given lectures on Rolle's Theorem and related topics in school level. Have been the editor of my school's wall magazine and on the student council. I organized the intra-school extracurricular activities contests and have represented the school in many places.

Apart from that, I have been playing the piano for close to 7 years now, though I have never given a performance as such. I also paint, a traditional Indian Art Form called Tanjore Painting..... I have a passion for public speaking and have won many interschool debates and oratoricals, apart from qualifying for a national debate from the Southern Zonals...... I have taken part in and won many Creative Writing and Poetry Writing Contests.....

I often take part in counselling the younger students regarding career opportunities and classes......

Am going to take the SAT this October.... So do I have a chance of getting in? I mean, they say sports is an imp. factor, but I dont really play that much of sports 'cos of a problem in my feet.... MIT has always been my dream college......

And btw, we dont exactly have GPA system here.... But I checked with my teacher who said I have a GPA of 4.35..... I have taken the following courses in school:

Advanced Levels of
Maths through Calculus
Biology through Genetics and Molecular Biology and Human Physiology
Physics
Chemistry
English

Also, I go for special training courses in Maths, Physics and Chemistry...........

I am hoping to qualify in the Biology Olympiad and Chemistry Olympiad.....

So, is it realistic? I mean, MIT has always been THE college in my mind right from my junior school.... And I really wanna know if I stand a good chance!

I dont want to be a wet blanket but from what you have told us you probably have a little less chance as compared to the other Indian applicant. Some of them have really stellar resume. But dont give up hope .

Sports is not an important factor. Exhibiting the qualities which dedication to and strong performance in a sport indicate, is an important factor, but you can show those qualities in other ways. Nobody expects you to play sports with foot problems.

However, international admission is very, very competitive, and there are a lot of applications from India - you seem like a good applicant who's doing the right things, but it's going to be even more of a crap shoot for you than it would be for a domestic applicant. And there's really nothing you can do to make it otherwise - just keep up the good work that you're doing! :)
