chances of getting in?

GPA:3.2
ACT:22
Class Rank:40%
EC: 3 years of track(JV AND VARSITY), 3 YEARS of Latin Club, 2 Year of DECA, 2 years of Golf

Im active in my community, helping out with other school organinzations etc.

and from Virginia.
RAI Score 268

RAI score? Where did you get RAI score from?

I think your chances are below average due to average GPA around 3.5, and I think average act around 25. Also being out of state could also make it difficult.

Reach, honestly. GPA is on the low end. ACT is definitely on the very low end. But apply very early and you never know. Good luck to ya!

I’m also from VA and will be attending MSU next year.
my stats:
GPA: 4.035
ACT 29
I am also in the Honors College which is really helping me financially.
I think MSU is a definite reach for you- they become more and more selective every year. But good luck.

I agree with the above posters - MSU is a bit of stretch for you. However, don’t count yourself out in any way - I am certain there are students who have been admitted to MSU with similar stats recently. Especially if you are able to convey what you have been doing outside of academics through the rest of your application ie through recommendations/essay, you will have a better chance for acceptance.

Yeah I was looking at Michigan State University application, and they ask for loads of essays, so you may be able to give a catch.

they only ask for one essay, which is called a personal statement.

^
Thats odd, when I was looking at their application I was stun with the ( at least) 3 essays I’ve seen. I don’t recall just one as an option.

well considering i applied last year and was accepted having written just one essay…

I strongly recommend that you re-take the ACT. I got deferred then accepted for Spring 2010 this past year with a 3.4 27 in state.

Your GPA is okay for MSU, but the ACT is low. Retake.

Andre, you’re wrong. His GPA is not ok for MSU now. A 3.2 is very much on the low end.

got my new scores! I got a 29!

congrats! That should improve your chances of attending MSU rather significantly.

Yeah a 29 ACT should be really helpful.

youre in now. but seriously… everyone gets in to MSU. they have like a 75% acceptance rate. So don’t consider yourself special in any way. But I also think that it does not matter what college you go to, it matters what you do there.

R-KATT, what are you talking about? In no way is he “in”. Has he improved his chances? Absolutely.

MSU has gotten a lot more competitive in the last few years. They are rejecting very good students. I know quite a few students who got rejected this year with better stats than that.

And who are you to say who is special? Is one any more special for getting into U of M (which I am assuming you want to based on other posts)?

Ugh.

I’m pretty sure that a 75%, actually a 74%, acceptance rate doesn’t mean that everyone gets into MSU. If you’re here to bash MSU, go to the U of M forum. Thanks.
