I really like Dickinson but I don't know if its a fit or reach for me. I've lived all over the world (Jakarta, Tokyo, Yokohama, Manila, Fairfax VA), and I'm going to be applying from Kiev, Ukraine; my parents work for the State Dept. I'm an okay student (9th grade: 4.0, 10th: 3.71, 11th: 3.66) going to a tough public school (WT Woodson). I've taken 9 honors courses through three years, 3 APs; unfortunately, because of graduation requirements I'm only going to be able to take one IB at my new international school. My SAT scores are okay (Old one: 750V, 540M, new one: 730CR, 610W, 550M) (will retake), could be a lot better. I was a Class Officer in 10th and 11th grade, and probably will be one in Kiev, and am in NHS and History Honor Society (yeah, I know, pretty lousy extracurriculars). I'm a pretty good writer which will help me on the essays.

So, if anybody reads this: What are my chances of getting into Dickinson and any suggestions for 'fit' schools for me? Thanks.

PS: Wow, after reading "My Chances-Be Brutal" I feel really, really stupid.

i would estimate your chance of admission to be very high. the fact that you've been educated and lived overseas will probably work in your favor. your gpa is very high and your standardized test scores are certainly in the range for acceptance to dickinson. we visited dickinson a few times with my daughter and we all liked it very much. i liked the campus, the location, the town, the level of academics, etc.. without knowing more about you and your interests i could only recommend schools that we found to be similar to dickinson. those schools were lafayette, bucknell, and gettysburg. good luck with your college search.

My daughter and I just visited Carlisle, fine campus, liked the place a lot. Your scores are good already. They only look at CR+math, ignore the Writing part, so yours would be 1280, and their 25-75 percent range, according to US NEWs was 1180-1360, although the admission people claimed that average was slightly above 1300. Your international exposure would be a plus. Check with them if you can still get an interview in Kiev.

I know I am extremely late on this...but Dickinson will LOVE the international experience. They have an entire department devoted to international education! D'son aims to have 100% of all students studying abroad within the next 5-10 years (54% of this past year's graduating seniors studied abroad at some point in their educational experience there). Definitely highlight your international experiences- they will appreciate it. D'son is one of my top choices also- and I'm one third Ukranian (and have been there several times), so I'm totally jealous that you're getting to live in Kiev!! :)

my daughter was admitted early decision, and she is very happy about it. The application process was very pleasant, the admission office was very responsive :)
