Geezuz, do you sleep? LOL. Nice job. Yes you will get in, you will most likely get offered some scholarship money, decent shot at top award of $25K, but if not almost certainly next level I would think. Honors Program is borderline, but with your extremely rigorous schedule (large number of AP’s, challenged yourself, very admirable) and the strong EC’s, such as tennis team and community service, I think your chances at a nice package are pretty strong. Let us know.

Thank you so much for your input! I will certainly let you all know what my status is in the next couple weeks!

I currently live in upstate NY and I’m a junior at a public high school. My GPA unweighted is approximately a 3.5. I’m currently taking AP English, and I’ve been taking Honors courses throughout the past almost-3 years. I’m a writer for the school newspaper (second year as a writer), involved in Model U.N., I was an editor for the school yearbook in ninth grade, and I participated in science club in ninth grade and humanitarian club in tenth. I’m also involved in the Spanish Exchange at my high school. Next year, I’ll be taking AP English 12, AP European History, AP Spanish 5, as well as AP Biology. I recently took the PSAT’s for a second time. My scores for the most recent PSAT haven’t been sent yet but I do know that I scored in the 90th percentile for the Math section on the PSAT’s that I took in tenth grade. I am a strong writer and I test very well. Do you think I’ll have a good chance, if any, of getting in to Tulane?

ecolton - you are certainly on the right track. Let’s see how your SAT’s turn out, also the results of your AP exams. But if you keep up the grades at the level they already are, and do 90th percentile or better on the SAT’s, you should have no problems at all. The fact that you challenge yourself with a lot of AP’s is a real plus.

Tulane’s a great place, I hope you have a chance to visit.

I was just there last week! My dad has been stationed in New Orleans for a few years and I am absolutely in love with the city!

Thanks for your advice!!

Hey I just wanted to let you know that I checked my application status online today and it said that I was admitted! Hooray! Hopefully I will get some merit money in the letter in the next few weeks!

Excellent! We are all wishing you great news in the letter.

With your stats Tulane should be on your safety list. Why not Vandy or Emory?

Great news for those of you who were admitted!

Hopefully, my son will get similar news…don’t know.

He scored 1940 on the SAT and 28 ACT.

GPA is 3.55, but his first marking period Senior Year he is at 4.2 (unfortunately the transcript submitted to Tulane is through junior year).

Lots of EC’s included Math competitions against other high schools, Future Business Leaders of Tomorrow, Computer Club etc. Has also worked 20-30 hours a week for the same place for nearly 3 years and he also has started his own business (entrepreneurship?), which he discussed in his Essay. Won an Award from Johns Hopkins for Center for Talented Youth.

His weakness was a C in 9th grade Spanish and a C in 10th grade Spanish.

Oh yeah, older sister goes to Tulane (senior) and I help out periodically at TU events. hope that helps!

I’m hopeful, but cautious. I’d say 50/50…but we would need merit money anyway.

Anyone else think we have a better shot?

Not to be a downer, but I think the merit money is fairly iffy. I think he will get in though. The good news is what I think doesn’t decide anything, and I really hope I am wrong (about the money, I mean of course). It could certainly help that he has a successful sibling there and that they know you. Since he seems to meet the academic criteria, and experience shows families with multiple ties tend to give more over their lifetimes, they might think it is a good investment to give you some money. DOn’t know, but does give one some hope. Good Luck!

I am applying to Vanderbilt as well.
