Ok I'm sorry to post yet another one of these questions, but I could really use some advice. So here is my miniature personal statement:

I go to school in the UK, though I am a born US citizen. Quick question: Though i don't 'live' in the US year round, my grandparents do live in Boston, where I go for about 4 months out of every year; could I apply to MA congressmen and senators for nomination? If not is only the VP Nomination open to me? My school is part of the UK school system, so does not have formalized GPA/Class rank, but I am in the top classes for each of my subjects, and am in the top 10% in my class overall. I am the president of several academic clubs. I am the junior house captain for my boarding house
Fitness wise, I am 6'6.5", and 190lb. I'm pretty fit as I do crew for my school's varsity, which won the Head of the Charles in Boston this year by 43 seconds (our time actually was better than Navy's Champ boat). I am also competing to go to the Junior World Championships this year.
I'm fairly community active, I help out at an institution for the mentally handicapped every week.
I haven't yet taken a formal SAT, but in a practice past paper I scored 2300.

Thank you so much for any possible advice/predictions!

I don’t know how to contact him- there is an online form to send to the Crew coaches, but it doesn’t really allow for students living abroad. Is there any way to contact him directly?

And who is the ‘Supt’? Superintendent? And if I was to try to get an appointment with him, how would I go about it?

Thank you so much for your response, and I would really appreciate any other info/advice/opinion you have!

The other academies have an on-line form to fill in that starts the process. I would recommend you get your information directly from the Naval Academy. You should be able to e-mail questions.

Isn’t the VP nomination for children of graduates?

Thank you for that link Luigi59- I have emailed him directly and now wait in anticipation! If there is any additional advice or opinions I would greatly appreciate them!

On paper, from what you’ve shared, so far pretty darn good, I’d say. But remember, you’re always competing against moving benchmarks and competitors w/in your pool(s). Rhetorically, none are “good enough.” But still, many are given the opportunity to prove otherwise. May you be one of these, if it’s your heart’s desire.

Just to answer MD Mom’s question, the VP nomination is open for everyone to apply to. However, the VP (like every other MOC) can only have 5 cadets/mids at any academy at a given time, so he pretty much nominates about one person a year. This is handled through the academies themselves (ie the academy, not the VP himself or his staff, selects who gets that nom).

You were probably thinking of a Presidential nomination, which isn’t limited only to children of graduates. It’s for children of anyone who has served in the Armed Forces. The guidelines are for a minimum of 8 years, but it’s a bit trickier than that (reserve time, etc.) from what I’ve been told. But the parent wouldn’t have to be an academy grad, or even an officer, or even from that branch of service. If anyone thinks they may qualify, they could look into the specific requirements.

The Presidential nomination is for children of CAREER military members, not those who have xsimply served a minimum of eight years. A minimum of eight years active duty AND still on active duty, or retired. A minimum of 2880 reserve points AND still in the reserves, or retired. The on-line catalog, when and if it is ever published, has the exact requirements.

One of the great unknowns and closely held hands of the past 2 centuries, perhaps. For you to know of, rather than to know. Lest your papa is an admiral or the like, this will remain your mystery and ours. ;)
