I am currently going into my junior year and Brandeis is my dream school. Based off of what I have now, do you think it’s likely I’ll get in?
Current Unweighted G.P.A: 3.81 - I expect it will remain about the same, hopefully go up a little.
Honors (completed and anticipated): Geometry, Algebra 3/4, Pre-Calc, 10th English, American Studies (double period)
A.P. (including anticipated courses): Calc AB, Biology, Gov, Stat, Lit, Physics, Micro and Macro Economics
School Extra-Curriculars: 3 years marching band, 3 years Earth Service Corps, 3 years theater tech
Other Extra-Curriculars: created and maintained temple youth group (president on board), North American Federation of Temple Youth, job at bakery, worked at temple religious school for four years
Volunteer Work: Jewish Social Action Commitee, volunteer at local house for those in need (provides food, clothes, etc) every week, summer social justic camp, work with Earth Service Corps
I took French 1/2 in middle school, then took up to 5/6 in high school, the equivalent of three years, although only two show up on my actual transcript. Is that going to look bad?

Oh and I will probably take either AP Environmental Science and/or AP Psychology over next summer, since my school doesn’t offer either

What is your (expected rank)?
What are your test scores?

I haven’t taken the PSAT or PLAN yet, but I expect to do well. I’ll probably be in top 20% of my class, but that’s unweighted. Oh, and I forgot to mentioned that I lettered in band and I am a National Honors Society member

Sorry, I keep realizing stuff I forgot. I’m probably going to have on reccomendation from an alumni, and I’m pretty sure my other(s) will be great. How many recs are needed/reccomended?

Brandeis likes to see demonstrated interest-campus visit, interview on campus or with alumni as well as meeting rep during visit to your high school or college fair. Good SATS and AP scores are important… but just as important is to have a strong well-conceived and well-written essay.

You seem to have a reasonable chance. If you are in the Top 10% then you have a very high chance.

Make sure you demonstrate interest. A school like Brandeis cares about that a lot because they lose out on a lot of kids, so they try to find those who they think will come and raise their yield.

Email a regional rep, interview with them, meet them at a school college visit, visit the campus, etc. GL

Yeah I am really passionate about volunteer work/social justice sorts of things, and I plan to pursue that further. Thanks for the input!

I think you have a good chance. If you show a leadership role in any of your activities it would be a plus. When my son was accepted I spoke with the admissions director and he said the most important factor was the essay. I think SAT’s are crucial too.

Just make sure that you interview, and visit the campus! Since Brandeis is your #1 dream school, apply ED. Why do you want to go to Brandeis, think on that, and then you have your supplemental “Why Brandeis?” essay.

e-mail your admissions counselor and talk to them…they will be the person deciding whether to admit you or not. i was top 15% and 1910 SAT (and no interview) and i got in, so you should have no issues. good luck!

My s didnt interview, and got in with $100,000 Presidental Scholarship.

what are my chances?

Your “weighted” GPA is 3.03 so it’s under 3.00 unweighted?

What’s your class rank?

I don’t know. My school doesn’t do unweighed. We don’t have class ranks either.

Well, given that you don’t see to be able to calculate an unweighted GPA on your own, I would think that most competitive schools would be out of reach for you.

I would think that your school would at least give a percentile ranking. My school doesn’t “rank” but it provides a piece of paper to every school that explains that anything above a ___ is in the top 10% and then anything above ____ is in the top 15% and so forth. It is hard to believe that your school does no sort of ranking, and therefore makes it nearly impossible for a college to assess the rigors of your high school classes. See if your school does something of the sort.

NSHSS is just a scam that gets money. My school actually doesn’t allow students to enroll (rather, discourages it).

cucclater, I’ve said this multiple times. If you want a chance, please make your own thread. Don’t hijack someone else’s.
