I intend to get a degree in government and politics. I will be applying to colleges this starting this coming school year and from the end of my freshman year of high school I was very serious about getting into a top college (my dream schools are LSE, Harvard and Stanford).
First semester freshman year I got a c in h. geometry and high b’s in h. biology and chinese 1, but by doing really well and all a’s in classes since then I have a 4.0 grade point average. I completed 4 years of chinese at honors level by end of sophomore year. Sophomore year I self studied ap comparative government and politics, ap world history, ap human geography, and ap chinese and got 5’s. At school I have taken ap calc ab, ap calc bc, ap economics, ap us history, ap european history, ap us gov, and ap language and composition. I got a 5 on all the tests. This year (senior) I am attempting ap literature and composition, ap psychology, and ap statistics. I got a 2250 on the SAT and 34 on the ACT.
All of my extracurriculars I have participated in since freshman year: peer leadership, debate (captain this year), Model UN which I have won an award at every conference (officer since sophomore), mock trial (promoted to lawyer junior year), and founded Model Congress and have won an award at every conference (head of it since founding). I have been heavily involved in service devoting most of my time to a soup kitchen, but also a county run farm camp and the local library. My total service hours have gotten me the service award (100 or more hours of service) every year.
Every summer since after 8th grade I have volunteered on campaigns for political office at the local, state and federal level. The last two summers and this coming summer I was/will be an intern for couple weeks at my congresswoman’s office. The summer after freshman year I was selected for an op-ed writing internship, where I had 3 of my op-ed pieces on politics and economics published in national newspapers. The summer after my sophomore year I was selected for an internship at the United Nations where I was paired with mentors and at the end gave a presentation on the use of trade to expand the economies of developing nations. Starting in July I will be living at georgetown university for a month and taking 3 courses (9 credits): macro economic principles, micro economic principles, and international relations/ political economy. This coming year I will be taking Linear algebra, a college level math course, online through John Hopkins CTY. Through my high school I will be an intern for the senate majority leader in at my state legislature and be doing a senior project dealing something with economics and politics (haven’t decided yet what specific topic yet).
I have worked very hard to make up for my pathetic grades freshman year. will it be enough to get to the colleges I want to go to?
