Chances of getting into a UC...

I was wondering what were the chances of getting into a UC (UCD is my top choice/excluding UCB and UCLA because those are probably out of question) having taken no APs. I am currently a junior, planning to take APES next year.

I have a UW 3.93 GPA (Im taking a few ohlone courses that count as weighted credit). My last SAT score was a 1950.

I’m planning to take the new SAT and score a 1400+, and the ACT 30+.

I don’t do much EC, but have 260 community service hours.

Which UC?

If you mean UCLA or UCB, I wouldn’t really call them reach.

UCSD and UCSB seem like a better shot.

You might still want to improve on your EC and SAT score hopefully you get atleast a 1350-400.

Thanks guys, would appreciate more input as well

Tips for getting in, I would say just keep your academics and ECs up.
Take an interview, even if it’s over Skype.
Email them about how much you love the place and how much you really want to go.
I suggest you read good things on their website and tell them you would like to make the most of it.
Create a profile of all the work.
Have really strong recs that don’t only say stuff like “intelligent and hard-working” but people who have more to tell about you as a person or character, giving examples too.
For the essay? Do not make it a resume. You don’t have to write about your achievements and all that. You don’t want to bore them. Write a story. A great story about your life that is interesting and really talks about you as a person. Something you’d actually like to read.
I think your GPA is wonderful. ECs could be more. You could definitely bring that SAT score up. I think you could have a good shot.

Only UCB considers LOR’s and those were only by request this year. Not sure if they will be required for all applicants, next year.
You have a solid GPA and if you get your test scores up a bit, you have an excellent chance at UCD. UCB/UCLA are tough but definitely worth an application.

Why no AP’s? Not available at your school? If few are offerred, then you will not be penalized. If your school offers several and you have not taken advantage, then it will impact your chances. UC’s consider GPA/Test scores/HS course rigor/Essays and then EC’s as part of their application review.

I don’t take AP’s because I’m in this academy thing at school for students passionate about science, health, athletics, and physical edu (SHAPE). Being in the program didn’t leave any space for aps, until senior year.

If that’s the case, then try to make sure that they know that. It will help prevent you from being penalized for not taking any APs
