Chances of getting into a waitlisted class?

Okay so I'm going to be registering for classes soon and I have never had to be on a waitlist for a class.

If I take a certain class over summer, I will be number 9 or 10 on the waitlist.

If I take that same class during fall, I will automatically be in.

I was hoping to take the class over summer so I will have a smaller courseload for fall. But if there is no chance that I will get into the class because of the waitlist, then I will just register for fall.

What should I do? Should I just register for both and drop the summer class if I don't get in, Or drop the one I fall if I do get in for summer? Or just register for one? Ahh I'm freaking out lol

Advice please? How many people on waitlist do professors usually take?

(extra info: It's an online class. For the summer one, There are 50 spots in the class that are filled. And there are currently 8 on the waitlist as of today)

It depends on the class, but can’t you register for both? If you get into the summer class, drop the fall one. If not, then you just don’t attend the summer class and take it in the fall.

How the heck are we supposed to answer this question? Why don’t you send the prof or the dep’t chair or your advisor an email and ask them?

How many people usually drop the class? How many people are usually accepted off the waitlist? Without the necessary information, it’s not a possibility for us to accurately answer this question.

First off, I would imagine that it varies so much from class to class, college to college, etc, so I have no idea really.

But, FWIW, I was 30/60 on a waitlist this past semester and got on. In fact, every time I’ve been on a waitlist, I’ve ended up getting in to the class.
