I just finished my sophomore year and I am going into my junior year of high school. I am wanting some feedback on what my chances are of getting into the academy. I currently have a 3.8 G.P.A. and rank in the top 90 of my 750 person class. I am involved in soccer, track, and cross country. I am in the german club, national honor society, and beta club at school. I am also involved in student council. Outside of school I participate in Civil Air Patrol where I just recently earned my Amelia Earhart Award. I am also in ROTC where I have earned numerous awards for leadership and academics. I help the highest leadership position a second year cadet could hold. I am working on my ACT and SAT scores. I started contacting my senators and congressman at the end of my sophomore year and we keep in contact regularly. I have numerous leadership posisitions with Civil Air Patrol and school. I also have contacted the academy and I am on their mailing list. Next summer I plan on attending the summer seminar and I have already started training for the candidate physical fitness test. Is there anything I can do better or that i need to work on? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your time and take care!

It seems we're getting a lot of these posts lately.

I'm not the admission board. That said, I really can't say where they may find weakness. Just do everything you can, get good grades, stay involved with sports, stay proactive with the admission/nomination/medical qualification process and you should be fine.

If those stats are right you will probably get into Summer Seminar. Apply early and just go through the application process. It's a "learning experiance."

You're doing just fine, man. Keep it up, but don't miss out on what your years in high school have to offer. Turn in your application soon, but enjoy yourself too.

As far as the PCQ is concerned, it says fill it out during your junior year. Should I complete that as soon as my junior year starts or should I wait until I turn 16 Sept. 5. Thank you everyone for your input, be safe and take care.

whoa...like totally yah you have a good chance. Your stats are way above mine and I got a direct appointment to USAFA. I'm CAP too. I'm just a C/TSgt. and CAC rep. Another thing admissions like to see is your personality not just your grades. I mean my gpa isn't too high, but they liked the way how i'm persisitant and determind since they knew that I took the SATs 8 times to get a good score. And you'll also have to think about your medical health too which plays a factor on your admission. I hit it strong on my essays and interview.

If you apply to Summer Seminar, the application is your PCQ. If you are selected then you will receive a letter in March telling you that your considered a competitive candidate. Then in June you will receive another letter about your candidate kit and that you need everything done by Sept 1.

Also you need to try to letter in one or more of the sports you are "involved" with. Doc France repeatedly has stated this is one of the most important things you can do, being a team captain is even better.

I would suggest you read the the text only post, these have alot of good info and will answer questions you have not even thought of yet.

The Academy is about team work and helping each other out.

don't fill out the PCQ because your summer seminar application will be your PCQ. Make sure to get your summer seminar application in as soon as possible, and make sure to put a lot of heart into the essay questions. You want something in the essay that will make you stand out and be memorable because they go through soooo many of them. You must be prepared for your meetings with your senators/congressmen. This is extremely important and the good things my congressmen told the academy about me are probably what got me in. they'll try to put you on the spot and catch you off guard so you must be prepared for anything. They'll expect you to know a lot about the academy and will probably ask you questions about things such as the honor code, so be very knowledgable about the academy. There are a lot of kids who have perfect everything, but are socially inept and the meetings with their senators are where this kills them. So you have pretty much everything going for you just get your summer seminar application in as soon as possible and be prepared for your congressional meetings. GOOD LUCK!
