Chances of getting into American University?

<p>I got a 1700 on my SAT (500 CR, 580 M, 620 W). I plan on taking 3 AP's senior year, will have 2 or 3 years of sports, 10 hours community service, work experience, and a 3.8+ GPA.</p>

<p>I am guessing that GPA is weighted. SAT is obviously the weak spot, you are probably below their 25th percentile. I think you need to have a few safeties that are less competitive than American. Barring something we aren’t seeing, I think your chances are less than 50% for sure.</p>

You see that very low SAT. Why do you think they would get in ED? Agreed that EC’s look a bit weak, unless by work experience you mean you work after school and on weekends all year round. Then not being able to do EC’s is explainable. If that is the case, you have to make that clear to all schools you apply to. I still think admission in any case, including ED, is less than 50%.</p>
