So I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, and a 4.6 GPA cumulatively as a Junior right now. I am in IB, and get mostly A's in all of most of my classes. I am retaking the ACT on June 8. I was just wondering what were some of my chances in getting into a top-tier school like MIT or Cal Tech for atmospheric science. Any ideas?

It depends. What did you get on the ACT that you have taken, and are you planning to do better than that? If so, by how much?

Without preparing, I got a 27. I am going for a score of about 30-33 WITH studying.

For a chance at MIT or Caltech, or the Ivy Leagues, you’d want at least a 33.

Debater is absolutely correct. But apart from that 33 on your ACT (which is a bare minimum at these schools) you’re going to need some fantastic, long-term ECs which show leadership along with great essay writing skills and topics. I’d say right now that both schools are high stretches for you.

Chance back? [Penn, Harvard, Chicago and More!!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1509778-chance-new-guy-penn-harvard-chicago-more-will-chance-back.html)

With 3.8 uw GPA, you probably need even better test scores and outstanding EC.
