I'm thinking of applying to a few Ivy Leagues to see if I can get in. I'm not really sure I'll get accepted. Do you think I can get in to colleges like Columbia, UPenn, Yale with
a 4.0
30 on act
1920 on sat
lots of extracurriculars
4 ap classes (although there are many offered at my hs)
and ethnically unique
I'm interested in applying to the international studies programs at each ivy league, including the huntsman program. I know how hard it is to get in theses colleges, but do you think I have a chance?

Your GPA is really good, but I feel you would have a higher chance of getting into an Ivy League with a higher sat.

Chances are much less given your test scores.

^ Agree. Also, you must have something that stands out about you besides your ethnicity. Your statements gave no indication of that.

In addition “lots of extracurriculars” doesn’t tell a whole lot- if you did every activity under the sun, that might show lack of depth. Did you mean to convey that you have some real depth to your activities?

With your current test scores, the Ivys that you listed are all high reaches. You need to improve your test scores to even have a chance.

^I agree with everyone. Try bumping up your SAT to at least 2100.

Close to zero chance because Colleges will think that your high school inflates GPA. This is unless you are a URM (black, hispanic, latino, native american)

Take the SAT or ACT again! Chance me back plz

thank you. :(

Yeah, you REALLY need to improve your test scores. Just because you’re “ethnically unique” (heck, isn’t everyone?) will not guarantee you admissions to these colleges. By the way, the Ivy League colleges – and, indeed, most others – look at the quality of your ECs, not the quantity. I’d say you would be a reach/high reach at all the Ivys. Chance me back, please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1551040-please-chance-me-columbia-engineering-ed-uiuc.html

what’s your story? why do you want to go to one of those schools in the first place?

because for HYP, I know that there has been cases where students with low scores got admitted because they had a compelling story to tell,…

^ well my son had a very compelling story to tell- he nearly died twice from blood clots in the lung and joined a national nonprofit organization to educate patients and doctors about the dangers of blood clots. He also formed a patient support group, one of only 4 in the country. His essays were not a pity party by any means. He actually described how his future goals were shaped by his rare life experience.

I guess that wasn’t compelling enough for the Ivies. No problem, as he took his talent to WUSTL and doesn’t regret it for a second.
