Chances of Getting Into Boston University

Just wondering everyone else’s thoughts on my chances of getting to BU. Its my dream school and I want to know what I can do to prove I am what they want. I want to go into Computer Science and I am a Male.

I take AP classes in multiple subjects.
AP US Government
AP US History (2 year Course)
AP Computer Science
Honors World History
Honors English (1 year)

Next Year I am Taking:
Honors Advanced Java
AP Computer Science Principles
AP Calculus AB
AP Environmental Science

I’m hoping these classes show that I am challenging myself and also have a passion for programming and the computer sciences. I want BU to know if they accept me I will excel in their computer science department.

GPA (Weighted): Avg. 3.7
Freshmen: 3.3
Sophomore: 3.7
Junior: 4.1

I have become much more hardworking throughout high school so I’m hoping this upward curve in GPA will help my chances.

New SAT: 1300

I have taken the new SAT once and I plan to again the the fall. I did not study this first time but I plan to study for the next time and score a 1400.

Recommendations:
11th Grade Physics Teacher: Liked me because I put effort into the class and ended up getting a solid A
10th,11th, 12th Grade Computer Science Teacher: This teacher loves me. I do really well in computer science and not to sound arrogant but was by far the best in the AP Comp Sci Class. I convinced him to start a computer club, in which I now run along with him.

My strongest points I feel are my Extracurricular:

4 Year Member of the Marching Band
1 Year Equipment Manager of Band
Upcoming Band President of the Entire Band Program (150+ students)
1st chair French Horn 3 years

Soon to be Eagle Scout

4 Years of Ski Team
3 Year Ski Instructor at Local Ski Mountain (Paid Employment)
Captain of the Competitive Ski Team(20+ athletes)

3 Years of Varsity Throwing (Spring Track and Field)

President and Founder of the Computer Club (14 members)

Member of the TRI-M Music Honor Society
Next Year Member of the Academic Honors Society

Hey I think you can do way better than BU. We’re not known for CS, and we definitely don’t have the resources that can help you excel. Not many people get internships, and not many companies recruit at BU. The only great thing about BU was that it was in Boston, so I was able to go to many hackathons and tech talks. You should apply to the CS schools that companies actually recruit at. Just try harder on your SAT.

Consider these CS feeder schools that your stats are more of a match for - Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, University of Waterloo, UIUC, UT Austin, University of Michigan, Georgia Tech, and UC Berkeley.

I was pursuing CS at BU, but realized that how mediocre the department and resources were. Ended up transferring out to a better CS school.
