Good personal statement about troubles i’ve had to overcome with my family

Good letters of rec (1 from teacher, 1 from counselor)

Sri Lankan- minority group.

However, earlier in the year I was told to send in verification of my US citizenship to BU, so I did, but now “Citizenship Match” comes up as “NOT REQUIRED and do not have to be submitted.” instead of “RECEIVED by our office” under my financial aid section on my BU Web Portal. Why did BU suddenly change their mind? Is it because I didn’t get in (for Fall 2011)? Sorry, BU is my top school and I’m really nervous about getting in.

I think you generally have a good chance of getting in, same with me your GPA is a little bit low, but since more than 30% of BU students had a HS GPA of 3.49 or less, I wouldn’t worry too much. Good luck!

Agreed with the statement above, getting the GPA up would help. But other than that, I would say you have a good chance.

my GPA is so low because I did terrible freshman year. Here is a breakdown of my GPA throughout high school

Freshman
2.6
2.6

Sophomore
3.5
3.67

Junior
3.73
3.6

Senior
4.33

(Basing the first part of my opinion on the academic profiles of two good friends that got in ED) Your GPA isn’t too low below the average, how much it matters will depend on how many kids from your school applied to BU (I’m assuming not that many since in my post you said you’re from Cali). As an example take my two buds, one comes from a school that HEAVILY applies to BU and one comes from a school that almost never does at all. The first one, who as a result of going to a “feeder school” to BU had to directly compete against many kids from his own school had more importance attached to his GPA, got in with about a 3.8UW, the other had about a 3.6 from what I understand. Also your upwards progression will help, they love that. Your SAT fits into their average 50% so that’s fine. Your courses are loaded for a BU applicant so thats a huge plus. Although your EC’s seem to be lacking a little bit in being fully rounded (only two years of any sports) your leadership titles are huge pluses also (the second friend I mentioned from the school with few applicants was student body president). Finally, your status as a minority from across the country helps too because they stress diversity.

Additionally, when I went to BU’s senior day (In January? I think) they showed the academic profiles of three example applicants and yours matches the one that got accepted (as opposed to accepted to the honors college or rejected) almost completely perfectly.

Overall I would be very confident if I were you, good luck.

That was my problem too!

Freshman year : 3.02
Sophomore : 3.88
Junior : 4.09
Senior : 4.36
Overall 3.78

Math:650 CR: 540 W: 530
