Chances of getting into Cal Poly?

GPA: 4.0 (weighted) 3.8 unweighted (I’m hoping to work hard in the first quarter to raise this up a little more)

SAT: math: 650
writing: 570
reading: 620

ACT: Composite: 27
Math: 30
Reading: 28
English: 24
(I’m planning on retaking the ACT in september, hoping to get a 30 at least)

I’m also planning to take the math 2 and physics SAT subject tests.

I also do a lot of volunteer work, I work outside of school, I’ve participated in sports, I’m in the National Honor Society, I started my own photography business, I’m taking all IB classes and am a IB diploma candidate, and I’m applying for the math and science honor societies this year.

Intended Major? In-state or OOS? Cal Poly SLO also uses Freshman grades in their GPA calculation and a bonus point system for extra classes see links:

@gumbymom I’m hoping to do some kind of engineering major, and I’m out of state (from VA)

GPA looks competitive but SAT/ACT low for an Engineering Major.
See Freshman Profile for 2014:<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions;
I would retake SAT/ACT and aim for at least the average listed on the profile. If you are Full-pay, you will have a better chance since Cal States give very little to no financial aid.
Good Luck.

@gumbymom ok, I am planning on retaking the ACT but not the SAT in general all my practice ACT’s have been better than practice SATs, I don’t think I would qualify for financial aid anyways. Thanks for your help!

It is definetly a reach. If you apply with those scores it will be tough to be accepted.
Retake and apply early decision.
Good Luck
