Not sure if this matters but I’ll include it anyways, Minnesota resident, white male, middle upper class family. I am a junior and sitting at a 3.75 GPA which lands me in the top 18% of my class, since freshman year I have been in AP and Pre-Ap classes whenever offered, passing all AP tests so far. I got a 24 on the ACT the first time that i took it - I took it blind - but strongly believe that I am more than capable of a 27+ if I study and prepare for it - I plan on at least 2 more attempts.
EC’s include:
3 years of varsity lacrosse
1 year NHS member - will also be in next year as junior year is the soonest admittance is allowed
2 years in Opera Club
250+ hours of volunteering at my church - not including volunteer work with NHS
Current retail job - going on 1 year working at the same place
LOR from former Carlson student
Chosen to be writing center tutor by my AP Comp teacher
I am also planning on applying towards the end of summer as soon as admission opens up, as I know that UMN has rolling acceptance. Am I wrong to think that this strategy will give me a leg up on the competition? What are my realistic chances of getting into Carlson School of Management at University of Minnesota is I get up my ACT score? Also I think that my EC’s are a little lacking, thoughts?
Thanks,
Sean
