I will be applying to UT Dallas and have already applied to Texas A&M. I have a 3.2 unweighted GPA, and 1200 on SAT which I will take again. For extracurriculars, I have 100+ volunteer hours, a non-profit organization, a fix-it phone business, and an internship. I’m extremely concerned about my admission chances at both these colleges and also I’m applying as a computer engineer major. I have lots of time to apply for UT Dallas, but what do you suggest I add to my application to make it pop?
Class rank is the most important factor (to the exclusion of HS GPA) for frosh admission to Texas public universities. Whether you are a Texas resident also matters, since the automatic admission for top 10% (6% for UT Austin) only applies to Texas residents.
Of course, admission to a competitive major may be more difficult than admission to the campus.
I’m currently in the 2nd quarter
I think that you need to also apply to safer schools. Of course attending community college is also a valid backup if neither comes through.
Also try to keep your grades up as much as you can from here on.
I’m applying to UNT, and UT Arlington. Also, there has been an increase in grades like 90+ in every class.
Do you think I have a shot at both colleges?
A&M, probably not, especially if you want an employable major. UT-Dallas is a low reach, UT-Arlington, and UNT are arguably match schools. Just to be safe, it might be good to apply at UTSA and Texas State.
Consider Texas Tech as well
