The University of Colorado Boulder has been my dream school for quite some time, and I would LOVE to get accepted. I am a junior, going into my senior year, graduating in June of 2015. I am from Haymarket, Virginia, in Prince William county which is a part of the Washington DC area.

As of right now, my total cumulative high school GPA is a 3.34. I took two honors classes freshman year (half weighed) at a prestigious private school in the DC area. Sophomore year I moved to public school, and took two pre-AP classes. Junior year I took two AP classes (APUSH and AP Lang/Comp) and Functions & Analytical Trigonometry (which is a fully weighted class). Next year I will be taking 3 AP classes (AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, and AP Government).

I only took the SAT one time, and scored a 1790, which I wasn't super impressed with. I took the ACT and scored a 27 the first time, and a 29 the second time.

I have 100+ hours of service work including Habitat for Humanity, mission trips to Costa Rica and the British Virgin Islands, a summer volunteer program at a local hospital, and working with disabled children through special olympics.

Athletics wise, I was on JV Lacrosse and did pole vault for the Varsity Track team.

I will also be applying to the University of Wisconsin Madison, The University of Utah, Arizona State University, and the University of South Carolina. I will be applying as early as I can for early action for all of them.

The fact you said CU Boulder is a safety definitely makes me feel better. I just want to get in, as they have a good major for prospective medical school students.

I am just worried about my GPA, it could be a 3.31

For CU- I think if your ACT is a 29, the 3.3 should be ok with all those AP classes, but I would definitely work hard first semester senior year. They may wait on a decision until they see your fall semester grades. I also think your experiences in Costa Rica, Habitat for Humanity, and with special olympics are a big bonus. CU prides itself on valuing diversity and creating global minded citizens. It isn’t the most diverse campus, but they do place a high value on diversity. My son applied early admission last year. He had a 3.65 weighted GPA with AP classes, and an ACT of 21-so he wasn’t admitted early decision but they took him in January. I bet you will get in early admission with that 29 ACT- but keep up the fall grades in case they make it conditional. We are locals and alumni- very familiar with this school. It is an excellent school for sciences, pre-med, engineering, liberal arts. Many of the dorms have academic learning communities. This may be superficial- but the dorm food is actually pretty amazing too! The community and environment is fun. We get tons of sunshine, and there are a lot of outdoor activities. If you snowboard/ski there is a bus that picks you up on campus and takes you to a local area-Eldora in half an hour, or you can ride the ski bus up to the major resorts like Copper/Dillon/Winter Park which are about 1.5 hours away. There’s a beautiful creek path that goes up to the foothills as well. If you get accepted early, apply for housing as early as you can so you can get the central campus dorms and aren’t stuck far out in Williams Village.
