I want to be a veterinarian. I'm very passionate about the sciences.

My GPA is about a 3.85
I'm a junior at an IB school.
My ACT score is a 32
I'm taking the SAT soon, and I could get above a 2k but I'm not sure by how much.
I'm a founder and vice president of my high school's Writing Center(helping students write their assessments/lab reports).
I'm involved in my school's HCC(Helping the Community Club) which helps provide charity to students in our school district.
I shadow an exotic veterinarian 2 hours a week.
I'm on the varsity swim team
I'm from Seattle.
I've competed at a statewide level for DECA

My junior/senior coursework:
IB HL: biology and history with solid A's.
IB SL: marine biology with a solid A.

I'm deciding on whether or not to take AP calc next year or take it at the college through our Running Start program.

Running Start College Classes: Precalculus I and II, Astronomy, two English classes, Intro to Stats, intro to chemistry, cell biology, physics

And I'll have met my other graduation requirements but they don't have anything to do with my pre-vet zoology major.

Your stats are good and so are you ECs. I recommend that you take some AP exams though and try improving your ECs. Otherwise, your chances are looking good. Good luck!

If you can score +2100 on the SAT, maintain your GPA at that level until graduation, and may be add one more leadership EC you’ll have it in your pocket. My brother went to Cornell. It’s the easiest Ivy to get into, but the hardest one to stay in.
Good luck!

Hm… I’ll try getting on DECA leadership or perhaps the honors society board then… this would be a dream come true; thank you for not shooting me down.

I heard Cornell is brutal in terms of work/stress? I visited there and they even had to build a huge fence on the bridge because so many people committed suicide.

Brutally honest opinion - it’s a far, far reach. Fatten your ECs up and get a high SAT score. Pursue your interests in the activities you do- Cornell wants to see through what you’ve done during high school your passions, not just see it in writing. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions! My IB coordinator, Mr. David Quinn, has been telling me that it’s a long, long shot. But I’l go for it anyways.

I think–so long as they don’t just toss out my application because of my testing/GPA–that if they read my essays and see my passion for the field and sciences(it’s the only subject I’ve ever truly excelled at in my extremely competitive school) that I have a better shot. Not to mention I have my IB biology teacher’s recommendation letter and my own writing skills at my back.

I can always try to transfer after loading more math/science classes at UW or WSU, as well.
