Chances of getting into Cornell?

Race: Asian (Chinese)
Gender: Male
Grade:Junior heading into senior year

My Sat Scores are:
Reading:710
Math:710
Writing:690

SAT 2:
US History:690
Chemistry:710
Biology:700

APs:
AP US History: 5
AP Chemistry: 5

Going to take:
AP Econ
AP Physics A
AP Stats

Honors Classes:
Band
Mandarin
English

My GPA is a 3.58 (unweighted) but this is due to a terrible freshman year when I got a 3.25. Without my freshman year, it would be around a 3.76. (any possibility they’ll look at the growth and ignore the terrible freshman year?)

Extracurriculars:

Section Leader of Saxophones (11th-12th)
Varsity Swim Team Captain (12th)
Class Council Member for two years. (9th, 12th)
Varsity Swim team member (9th-12th)
Made State Cuts in the 200 Freestyle and 100 freestyle (11th)
Volunteer at Hospital-40 Hours so far (11th)
NHS Member (12th)
Parade Band Member (11th-12th)
League All-Star Swimmer (11th)

I’m planning on doing early decision to Cornell but I feel that my lower GPA for freshman year is really gonna hurt my chances. Also, because of this, I couldn’t take any AP classes for sophomore year but I came out with a 3.7 for that year. I’m also planning on taking the SAT again. Chances I’ll get into Cornell?

Edit: Oh, my school is also in the top 10 public schools in Massachusetts.

You are on the percentiles in both your GPA and scores, coupled with being an Asian male (making it a very competitive demographic group from the NE) this is going to a sizable reach.

@jbyjby90 I couldn’t agree more with the above. Stay out of the way of other Asian applicants. Notre Dame, Holy Cross, Boston College, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, among others have relatively small Asian populations. Many of the top LACs as well.

Fresh gpa is a little rough, but the rest is a pretty solid application. Write good essays and if it’s truly your number one then ED. Good luck!
Chance me back please

Your standard tests are average and the sat2s are not very outstanding for an Ivy league. You have decent extracurriculars, but they’re not ridiculously incredible. Regular decision I doubt you’d get in but early decision it’s possible. Essays are going to be the determining factor. I wouldn’t bet on getting in though.

Make sure you apply regular.

Same exact situation as you except i’m an URM! Best of luck to the both of us! hahaah

Alright, Thanks everyone for commenting! Probably gonna ED for Cornell as I really want to get in. I’ll chance you up @ptkid16
