I am applying RD to Duke and I want to know my chances of getting in/what they're looking for in their essays. I have a 31 on my ACT(29 English,35 Math,28 Reading, and 32 Science). I want to major in Computer Science so I do not think my reading/english scores will hurt me too much. Also I have a 3.87 GPA top 10% of class. 5 AP classes this year. Also, will it hurt me that I am applying this late(deadline is January 1st). It has been my dream to go to Duke since I was a little kid

I’m afraid your ACT assumptions are entirely and substantially incorrect:
- An ACT Composite of 31 is quite low for Duke applicants (especially considering that only about 8 percent will be accepted in RD).
- More important, at Duke you DO NOT apply for a major (such as CS); rather, you only apply to Pratt or Trinity. Generally, undergraduates have no formal major until late in their sophomore year (the indictions provided on applications are strictly advisory). Therefore, your ACT Reading and English results will be CRITICAL to Admissions’ evaluation (as they should be, since these examinations assess vital, fundamental life and educational skills, regardless of your final occupation/interests).

By the way, the foregoing information is readily available on several Duke webpages as well as many CC threads. Since you’ll unquestionably be at a good college next year, you might want to consider the appropriateness of doing thorough, independent research (and not just for classwork).

Sorry to bump this thread but I got a 2120 in the SAT- is that in the range for Duke? Do I still have chances?
@MindCastle15 Nearly nobody has a chance at Duke. But write compelling essays, donate 85$ to the poor institution, apply, and find out.
It is within range. Give it a shot. They just rejected thousands of kids ED with similar or higher stats. Go in with your eyes open.
Ha, thanks! I’m applying BME so prob I have even lesser chances than usual
