I just sent my new SAT scores off to ECU because my first scores in November were 1340. I was shooting for above 1500 on my December scores but I think I'll be fine for ECU.

My most important question I need answered is, does it matter the major you selected? I choose Systems Engineering which is what I want to do. But all my friends told me I should have just choose something like Agricultural or Physical Education. Will it really effect whether or not I get accepted just by major I have selected. Like does it matter which field you have selected whether or not you'll get in? It say's on the online application that I applied under general college, but does that mean I'm automatically in their engineering school or is that separate from general college.

I have applied to NC State as well but I highly doubt I get accepted because they are so much more competitive and especially in engineering because they have one of the finest engineering schools in the country. But should I apply to anywhere else maybe UNC Charlotte or Appalachian State?

Based on general admissions standards, I think you’ll get into ECU without issue. In regards to the question of your selected major, the major you designate on the application can affect your chances of admission if the engineering department at ECU is particularly competitive. It is common practice for some universities to admit a student into the institution while rejecting them from a particular department, but I am unfamiliar with ECU’s policy. Regardless, you should be optimistic. As far as other schools go, I imagine that you would get into UNC Charlotte and might have a chance at App State.

Yeah like I said I feel I should get into ECU. But idk I’m just worried because I applied under the engineering field and I know any universities engineering program is always going to be tougher to get in. But on my application it said I applied just under general college so I’m pretty sure that’s different than their actual engineering program I’m not 100% on how admissions work that’s why I asked lol.

Hmmm… I don’t know why your application would list your major as undeclared when you did, in fact, declare a major. I guess you’ll find out when you receive their letter. I’m sure things will work out well for you, though. Good luck!

I called them this week and it doesn’t matter what your major is. Everybody applies under general college and then once you get in or not. You can declare your major and see if you get into engineering school or medical school or whatever field! But yeah I hope I get in, It’s been about 3 weeks now and I still haven’t heard back I’m getting kinda worried :/

Your chances look really waivery to me. On one side you have an extremely impressive GPA, on the other hand, your SAT doesn’t quite match up to it.

I think you’ll get in, but with an increase in your SAT score, you could aim soo much higher.

Nothing to worry about, it’s all about being on the safe side. The better you do, the better your chances. And your GPA and SAT don’t match up, that’s an issue. When that happens, colleges tend to think your GPA could be high because of leniency of the school.
