I just paid yesterday and I was wondering what my chances are of getting a dorm at the Ellicot complex? Also the guy freaking scared me and said housing isn't guaranteed to students and that we are late so there could be a chance of not getting a dorm?! Anyone know anything about that??

Freshmen have to get a dorm. They may be tripled, but housing for freshmen is required. Don’t freak you yet, We’re all in this together. We just paid Friday too.

There must be plenty of students that did not pay deposits yet anyway. Those still deciding. Those who find it difficult to pay even for that.

I believe freshmen are guaranteed campus housing as long as they pay their deposit by May 1.

Just checked on line. Not much info. Not a great admissions site.

In your acceptance folder there is a housing brochure. It states that freshmen get housing if the deposit is made by May 1.

(Don’t listen to all you hear, even from UB. When my husband and son visited Binghamton last summer I had them ask about triples. Their tour guide denied triples. Really? Guess he should tell that to the 600+ tripled freshmen on campus last year.)

Crazed – don’t know about Bing, but at UB there are planned triples. That’s a different room situation than unplanned triples which are just sardining the kids into a double room space.

UB had over 600 unplanned triples (forced triples) this year. Don’t know how they will fit the incoming freshmen class. Son choose UB over BU because of the engineering program so at least we don’t have to deal with that. Planned triples are fine. (At Bing, they have 2 closets and 2 desks to share among 3 students. Ugh.

o-mom, do you know how long it took them to de-triple everyone who was forced? I thought I read somewhere that everyone was moved by Nov, or maybe someone at UB told us that. I know alot, maybe even most, of the SUNY’s had to do this last year and with the economy I bet it’ll continue for awhile!

basketballgirl-
Where did you find this information? Is this for this year?

Main St is South Campus - there are several large and several small dorms there. You can find them on the UB website (building pictures).

Crazed - I think I saw this page when D did housing preferences. Pretty sure it was based on historical data…maybe just 2008. UB’s website is so extensive, I lose track of where things are but the search function there works very well :)

crazed-

HOUSING IS NOT GUARANTEED IN BUFFALO!

They will tripple only if they know they will be empty spots but i have heard horror stories. A couple of my friends who are from NYC were forced to move to sweethome because there were no more bedspaces (and their stuff wasnt even in that late) be smart and stay on top of anything UB to make sure you dont get screwed!

Well I got assigned to Clinton in Governors. I am a comp science major, so although its smaller than Ellicot, I am doing 17 credits so I expect to be studying a lot.
