Hey was just wondering if you thought I had any chance of getting into boulder chem eng program: sat is 1230 gpa is 3.84 UW out of state RD also I was a xc captain did ski club, track, math club nhs and shs
This is what CU is looking for in a Freshman wanting the College of Engineering:
College of Engineering & Applied Science
Middle 50% for Admitted Students
HS GPA: 3.88–4.0
Percentile Rank: 86–98%
SAT Total*: 1320-1480
*Math and Evidence-Based Reading & Writing
ACT Composite: 30–34
From here it depends on the competition for your class year and the rigor of your H.S.
Whether you have taken any AP/IB courses and your grades.
From what you have given us, you look more qualified for the College of Arts and Science, where
you can take the same courses as a Chemical Engineering Student. If you prove yourself in a
couple of semesters you can transfer over to the College of Engineering. Meanwhile you have
not lost any time, as Pre-engineering is on the same schedule to graduate in 4 years. You pay less
for the College of A & S tuition.
DO lookup the course sequence schedule for Chemical Engineering…it won’t be easy! You’ll
know what is expected of you.
@pma255 What is your math SAT score? Math grades? Highest math class you have taken by 12th grade? What physics class?
Your grades in math and physics in particular may determine if you get into College of Engineering, along with everything Ann of the Hill mentions.
You could consider a chemistry or biochemistry major in Arts and Sciences. This also will be challenging,
but you will need somewhat less math than a chemical engineering degree, that requires you take fluid dynamics, and more thermodynamics than some of the chemistry bachelor of arts degrees. Still chemistry is very highly ranked at CU and could lead you to a job in pharmaceuticals or other fields.
