Chances of getting into Ga Tech and UGA

Hi! I've been having some stress lately about which schools I'm going to get into...Here are my stats...any feedback about what my chances are at tech and uga? and any feedback about strengthening my apps?

My weighted GPA (the way tech and uga calculate it) : 3.73

Rigor: 9 AP courses by the end of high school -- AP Gov, AP comparative gov, AP world history, AP chem, AP lang, AP micro econ, AP stat, AP calc ab, AP psych

ACT: 32

Extra curriculars:

-Played flute for 9 years; was in wind ensemble (the highest band ) since sophomore year, gotten into the county's honor band multiple times

-Indian classical dancing for 10 years, Have performed in 10 annual dance recitals at Fox Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Hall and Cobb Energy Center, multiple international nights, and college dance competitions . Completed my arangetram ((an Arangetram is an Indian Classical dancer’s debut solo performance. It shows mastery in the art form as the dancer performs the ten required dances in the repertoire in a three hour solo performance on stage)

-Volunteered at emory johns creek hospital for 3 summers...40 hrs each summer

School clubs: Student reach (a tutoring club every monday for 1 hr), national honors society, beta club

Leadership: Service coordinator of national honors society, group leader during dance recitals

In the common app. I will elaborate on my activities more, but just for now I summarized them briefly.

You should get in easily

Based on the class of 2018’s stats, you’re ACT is at the 75th percentile for UGA, and the 50th percentile for Tech. Your GPA is a bit low for both schools; below the 25th percentile for both UGA and Tech, but that isn’t as hard a statistic since GPAs vary based on how rigorous your school/course load is.

That being said, I wouldn’t fret. With your extracurriculars and APs, you should get into UGA without much trouble. Tech admissions have become really competitive in the past couple of years (acceptance rates dropped from 55% in 2012 to 33% in 2014), so Tech is probably a reach, but anything can happen.

Plus, even if you’re rejected from Tech, GT has a really lenient transfer policy. The Office of Admissions maintains a list of courses prospective transfer students should take, and if you follow it to the letter and maintain a good GPA (the 2014 average was a 3.70), it’s not impossible. Even though the transfer admit rate has fallen in recent years, too (39% for 2014), it’s still a good bit less difficult to get in that way. Hope this helps!
