Chances of getting into georgetown university

Hi guys, Georgetown is my absolute dream university and if you could chance me that would put me at ease...I'm going to apply EA next year :) I know academics are a huge factor in admissions and I'm worried that my academic achievements are mediocre.

Academics:

Sophomore Year: AP World, Honors Spanish 3 (no higher level) Honors English 2 (no higher level), and Honors Biology. GPA UW: 3.8 W 4.12

Junior Year: AP Writing, AP US History, AP Environmental Science, Honors Spanish 4 (no higher level), Precalculus, Chemistry <---that worried me, 2 regular classes :/ GPA UW: 3.7, W: 4.1

Senior Year: AP English Lit, AP European History, AP Psychology, AP Spanish, Calculus, Creative Writing.

Class Rank: no clue, top 25%? there are a lot of smart kids at my school
ACT: 31, not sure though, i think I'm retaking.
SAT subject tests: haven't received the scores yet but probably in the 700's...is that low?

Extra Curriculars (leadership in parentheses): IN SCHOOL
American Cancer Society (President), JV Tennis for 2 years, Student Council representative 1 year, Model UN, Model Congress, Literary Magazine (Layout Editor, Head editor), School Newspaper, Habitat for Humanity (Founder, President), Blood Drive (Captain), Key Club (tourguide),

Extra Curriculars (OUT OF SCHOOL)
Dale Carnegie Program, wrote and bound a fiction book (really happy about that!), started my own non profit organization called Pink Embrace, Volunteered 300+ hours at my local hospital, intern at museums, got some of my poems published, I work at a spanish preschool, and do Habitat for Humanity.

oh and I'm hispanic, if that matters.

Chance me please :)

It could be anything with your resume. 50/50 chance

Georgetown: Reach (maybe high match if EA)

Just a cautionary note, EA with Georgetown is not like say, EA with UVA. It is actually SCEA, please read carefully, they forbid you from applying ED or SCEA to any other school.

forgot to mention that I’m fluent in Spanish, will have really good teacher rec’s since i’m extremely close with my teachers, and will have taken 7.5 AP’s by the end of my high school career. Also I’ve shadowed historians and worked at historic sites over the summers. Oh and I got my class rank today…top 13% at a private preparatory school. idk if that helps haha. BTW thanks for replying, and I’ll chance back :)

fatherofm - Okay thanks for the heads up :)

You look like a good candidate for the school. Your GPA and course load are on par. Your ACT is actually in the school’s mid-range (29-33), but if you want to be super competitive I’d suggest retaking it. Your EC’s are really good too. If I was to bet I’d say you’ll get in, but it is a 17% acceptance rate so make sure to have backup schools. Good luck!!!

thank you!!

I think you have a good chance - class rank/GPA might be a little iffy though

thanks  yeah the class rank worries me so much, and my GPA might be low for them. I also really messed up my freshman year (3.3) due to personal issues but I’m praying they overlook that

Georgetown- Low Reach/High Match
Good Luck!

thanks! :)

I’d consider it a high match/low reach.

Are you people stupid? Georgetown is extremely hard to get into. It’s only ranked lower (21) because of it’s low endowment. Only thing that is good is your EC (maybe). Everything else sucks for GU. Sorry but it’s a high math for you. My brother currenly goes there and he got waitlisted originally and his stats were amazing. Only his essays were bad. So unless you pull everything up you have no chance.
No hoya for you.

thanks for the replies guys

Yeaa I apologize for my unnecessary rant. I was ****ed at someone.

Does G-town still give preference to kids who attended parochial schools? I think at one time some 60 percent of their students went to Catholic schools. Please advise if this is still the case.

centennial13 - it’s fine
proudfather - I honestly have never heard of that before…I don’t think so though, G-town in general is not too religion-based, despite the fact that it’s a jesuit university. At least that’s what the tour guide told me. I think the farthest the jesuit values go is that they are huge on community service, but I don’t think they favor Catholic schools over others.

proudfather: the only time Georgetown accepts students from a Catholic school if it’s this certain one in NY I think. That school sends about 20-30 students to Georgetown. Other than that, it doesn’t matter.

You look like a great candidate for admission to Georgetown - best of luck!
