Chances of getting into Georgia Tech or Emory?
I am an Asian male from Marietta, GA. I go to a very competitive high school, the 2nd best in Georgia. I am a very hard worker & dedicated student.
My GPA is currently 4.1 weighed & my ranking is i believe 80/670 (It will improve this year). I have/will take AP Chemistry, AP US History, AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP Microeconomics, AP Biology, AP Physics B, AP Spanish Language. I have taken numerous honors courses.
My SAT scores really do not reflect how smart & hard working I am as a student. This is due to test anxiety & I hope that these numbers will not cost my future.
Verbal: 580 Math: 650 Writing: 610
Extracurriculars:
National Honors Society, Future Physicians Club (president), Teacher @ church, Boy's Tennis, Pianist, Job @ Nursery, Fairview Development Center, physicians assistant & much more. I'm active in the community w/ 150+ hours & counting.
Please inform me of my chances of getting into GT or Emory University. I'm worried & I'm willing to work hard.

Let me know what I need to work on or how I must proceed. Will a higher GPA weigh out the lower SAT score? Should I take any SAT II subject tests? Please advise me on what I should do or let me know if I am fine or not. Thank you very much!

Your class rank is kind of low, but due to the generous size of your class, in order to claim Top 10%, you need to move only thirteen spots.

If you boost your SAT score from 1840 to ~2200, that will help your chances immensely. Tech has a rolling admissions system, and if you can get your score higher, that will make it easier for you to be notified of admission earlier.

I can't comment on Emory as I didn't apply there.

GT, don't have rolling admissison system, but if you apply by Oct 30th
and if you have good score, you will have earlier notification.

I disagree from experience.

Early notification / early action means "apply by X, we'll tell you by Y, and you have no obligation to enroll."

Tech is "apply by October 31, we'll tell you as soon as possible, and you have no obligation."

A friend received her notification two weeks before Thanksgiving. I received mine two days before Thanksgiving. Lots of others received their notifications after Thanksgiving and well into December.

Compare this to early action, where everyone at my high school received online notification of his status at UGA on December 15.

Judging on your selection of AP classes, it seems to me you are more inclined toward math/science rather than humanities/arts. You will probably have a better shot at GT. Your SATs will improve with practice and study over the summer. You obviously want to go into medicine? (physician's assistant, etc) You may not realize that engineering is a good undergrad degree for medicine, otherwise GT offers many alternatives as well. Between your tennis, piano, community service, and the rigor of your curriculum I can't see why you shouldn't be a good candidate to both after all.

Work on getting over your test anxiety. I used to have stage anxiety (I play piano too) and I did some exercises in positive mental imaging/messaging. It completely solved my problem. Take the summer to do whatever it takes to help your scores in the fall, whether it's practice, study, confidence/relaxation exercises, whatever.

Also, have you looked into Oxford at Emory?

And I second applying early to GT. In your application emphasize yourself, you have a lot going for you!

GT doesn't look at class rank FYI. I think you should be able to get into GT fine (I don't know anything about Emory), but if got a 700+ on Math on the SAT then I'd almost guarantee you a spot (though nothing is sure in college admissions :P)
