<p>Okay, what is the possibility of getting into Harvard and Brown given these qualifications:
Rank 2/584
GPA 4.0 / 106.6
Hispanic
Income is less than 60000
Sat I 1960 (R660/M690/W620)
SAT IIs (not yet taken but Math I and USH, I expect 700s)
ACT 28
AP tests: Sophomore Year: AP Span (4) World History (3) AP Lang (3) Junior Year: Cal AB (5) AP Lit (4) US History (4)
I am currently taking the hardest classes possible which include: AP Physics I, AP Gov, Macroeconomics, Humanities DE, Introduction into Organic Chem, AP Stats, and AP Cal BC
I have a few extracurriculars but they're all strong: Band which I am Drum Major and Principle Player (I've received multiple awards and with my guidance we went to state)
Orchestra which I'm principle player on the bassoon
NHS which I am an officer and have over 90+ hours for senior year
Science NHS which I am Vice President
Recycling Club which I am an officer and am one of the most active contributors
(There's more activities such as Chess, Indoor Drumline, and College Orchestra but those are not as strong however I did include them) P.S. In The activities listed I have been involved since the moment they were available so I am a 4 year member in band and orchestra, 3 year in recycling, and a 2 year in NHS and SNHS
I've volunteered with children, tutoring, helping my school library be reconstructed , etc.
My essays were, I believe, quite sophisticated yet displayed my personality exceptionally
Well that's a vague image of me and I truly want to get accepted by Brown and Harvard. I plan to major in Biochemistry on the track of PreMed. My recommendations should be really good because the teachers know exactly who I am and what I aim to do. Hopefully these qualifications will help me get in to the colleges of my choice. Any advice is gladly accepted.</p>
<p>Your GPA and class rank are quite good, also being an URM will help.</p>
<p>However, your SAT and ACT scores are well below the 25% range for both Harvard and Brown. These schools are a definite reach for you.</p>
<p>Colgate has a great pre-med program. </p>
<p>SAT I is hurting your chances big time. You have a stand out application with the exception of that one aspect. I do think that, being a URM with every great aspect except the SAT score (and even the SAT score isn’t bad, it’s just not up to par for Ivies). </p>
<p>It wouldn’t necessarily shock me if you got into Brown, but I must say that Harvard is going to be much more of a stretch. That being said, anything is possible. However, that being said, they’re both still reaches.</p>
<p>Chance me back? <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1722473-my-final-chance-thread-chances-at-uva-w-m-wake-forest-vcu-and-fordham.html#latest”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1722473-my-final-chance-thread-chances-at-uva-w-m-wake-forest-vcu-and-fordham.html#latest</a></p>
<p>Bump</p>
<p>Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate it! I’m just wondering how I’ll compete with other applicants:/</p>
<p>Any more advice/comments?</p>
<p>yes. colgate is good for pre-med, as are many, many other colleges that you’d never think of and which are EASIER TO GET INTO – i.e., Lehigh, Lafayette, Wake Forest, etc. Dont get so hooked on the damn ivies. </p>
<p>Harvard and Brown are long shots but I wouldn’t rule either out, especially if your essays and recommendations are strong.</p>
<p>I hope you’re applying to some other schools too!</p>
