I'm interested in Fashion/Apparal/Textile Design and World Issues, so please let me know if you think I can get into the College of Human Ecology!!!
I'm a junior and my current unweighted gpa = 3.65 weighted=4.1
PSAT= 2010
My current class rank is 29/170

I'm in The Academy of International Studies at my school and I'm taking a lot of Honors Global Seminars (like Global cultures, minority studies, global issues, foreign film) along with AP French Language and AP Psychology (and next year I'm planning to take AP Comparitive Government, AP French Lit, and AP Art History) and then the basic core classes

EC's + I have the most service learning hours in my grade
co-president of the Amnesty International Club
co-president of the Movie Club
last year was in the Third World Relief Club
In 10th grade I was the JV Volleybal Captain
I have over 350 service learning hours by:
volunteering at local elementary school every summer
voluneering at local library
being a CIT for 3 weeks at a YMCA Camo
being a volunteer counselor at an Art Camp
volunteering at local walks
I've been a childrens soccer coach for 2 years
I'm a tutor for students at my school
I stay afterschool to fundraise for the Amnesty Club-which gets me more service hours
((as you can see I do a lot with children which I hope will look good on my app since all of my hours are geared toward one subject---helping people)))

i've been to summer camps like NC State Design camp (2 summers), Savannah College of Art and Design Summer Camp (1 summer), and Minnesota College of Art and Design Summer Camp (1 summer)

I'm currently working at Barnes and Noble Bookstore

I also forgot to mention that I was the 10th grade representative last year and I'm the
11th grade representative this year, and I'm on the Academy of International Studies Planning Committee and I'm on the Academy of International Studies Board (where only 4 students got to be on it and theres like 20 adults)

Your EC's are definitely impressive, and for FSAD your EC's/design abilities are probably slightly more important than your academics/test scores.
So I would say keep up the good work and up your GPA a little, and you'll have a good shot!

PAM is kind of hard to have "good ECs" for since it's all relative. Doing anything with commitment and leadership is a good start. Maybe doing something like debate or speech would also be good.

It's hard to get leadership positions as a college freshman, they all go to upperclassmen, except for freshman student council positions.
I'm also applying for PAM, I'm in 3 clubs...The International Relations Club (IR is my minor), Earth matters (environmentalist club) and a community service club...none are obviously linked to PAM but they reflect my personal interests.

I joined the Politics club but hated it, it was like 10 uber liberals who debated Obama with average liberals once a week...."I think he's really really really awesome!" "nahh he's just awesome" "at least we all hate bush!" yeah it was a waste of time.

lolygagha - I think your ec's fit design pretty well, its obvious you have a passion for it. there's a lot of different majors in humec, PAM is really different from Bio & society which is different from design...I don't think they're looking for one particular club/activity

Yeah, as long as your EC's fit the major you're applying to, you'll be a strong candidate for that program.
So if your EC's are all design-related and you apply to Biology and Society, that'll get an eyebrow raised.
If your EC's are all design-related and you apply to FSAD, that will help you enormously.

Has any of you received emails from Human Ecology? They basically go like, dear perspective student, Human Ecology has many unique ......., we invite you to take a look and explore.....

stargazer------ you can't minor in IR when you're in PAM/HumEc...... and also, once you take IR you're probably gonna realize it isn't what you think it is.....

I thought HumEc'ers were allowed to take classes from other schools and that they get tons of electives...if I take a lot of IR classes from CAS, I can't minor in it? Oh phooey. What do you mean IR's not what I think it is? Can you please elaborate...I haven't taken any classes related to it so far.

If you don't mind sharing, what EC's were you in that demonstrated your passion for policy...because I can't find any! I applied for the Public Policy Conference at Harvard's Kennedy School of Govt...I doubt I'll get in, but that demonstrates a clear interest in Policy. Is working part-time at a Consulting firm good? I know a lot of Pam students go into Consulting, or at least that's what I read on the website.
