Okay even though I am a freshman in high school the thought of college admissions is lingering in my mind. I have maintained a 94 overall, actually 96 with weight. In addition to academics I have been playing the violin for 5 years and the piano for 9 years. Also I am a member of the Varsity Tennis team. And I have been volunteering at a local hospital since mid last summer.

Too early to predict. By the time you apply to HYPSM the acceptance rate will be a lot lower.

Let’s place bets on when Harvard’s acceptance rate reaches 5%.

I’m guessing it’ll happen sometime in the next 15 years.

What do you think of my stats so far though?

Stereotypically Asian- tennis, medical volunteering, piano. What’s your hook?

I am not so sure. Do you have any suggestions?

Your stats consist of a freshman GPA.

Do you think it is a good freshman gpa in your opinion?

lol
10char

And what is that supposed to mean?

It’s kind of like you’re a six year old showing me your finger painting and asking me if you’ll be the next Picasso.

So my gpa is not good is what your saying.

More like a freshman GPA is as indicative of academic potential as a finger painting is of artistic ability.

yeppppp it seems you are doomed to your local state school honors program. i can tell already

How am i doomed?

You sound like a really smart and hard working kid. But right now, your focus should be on maintaining your grades and finding ECs that you are passionate about.

Right now its impossible to chance you, but that’s okay! You have four whole years to worry about what colleges want to see from you! My advice for you is to go off the beaten path find something that sets you apart from the pack.

Maybe you could start a charity or a business, volunteer at the local zoo, take some community college courses in a field you love, intern with a professional or scientist, or help tutor African refugees. I have friends involved in all of those ECs and it has realy helped them in the admissions process.

Best of luck to you! You will succeed no matter where you end up!

By your sense of humor.

Jesus, if you can’t even get that finger painting analogy then your chance at HYPSM is zero.

JK (kinda), but in all seriousness it’s impossible to tell from freshman year GPA alone. Obviously, we have no context in which to place your GPA (difficulty of school, class rigor, class rank) but a 94% sounds pretty good. What else were you expecting to hear?

iono i do agree with drought. that was a good and fairly easy analogy to get…

that aside, you might wanna reconsider your priorities if youre already thinking about this as a freshman. heck, high schools a time to just go and have lots of fun. go join activities that you want, and if you genuinely enjoy them, then itll ultimately reflect in your application. enjoy your classes, your teachers, and your classmates while you can. if you do that, then in having fun you can put yourself in a position to get good recommendations.

yeah, so from a harvard admits standpoint, i say stop thinking about it but have fun while you can and put yourself in a good position to think about in say a year or too

Thanks everyone for your advice. It is really becoming of good use to me!!
