Chances of getting into IMSA?

After talking to you two, jtfootball and tigerman333, I’ve realised how competitive getting into IMSA is. Now I’m doubting myself even more. What is self confidence? Non-applicable in this situation :D

Don’t worry lol. My application doesn’t seem so good anyways, but yours does  your app is probably gonna look a lot greater than me :D

I’m not too sure about that…

Yeah, I’m not sure about my application either. So I’m super scared as well

I know how you guys feel, my application is really weak

My application is okay too, but definitely not a guarantee in, which I would hope to have. I think your application is fine tigerman333, but what were your SAT scores? And do you know your unweighted GPA because IMSA does not take weighted GPA (because people with a 4.3 GPA scale like me will look like nothing compared to people who have a 6.5 GPA scale like you). Don’t forget to calculate for all three years (I had straight A’s all three years so that was easy to calculate for me lol). And I mean, if your essays portray your character and your passion for math and science, I think you should be fine, especially if your SAT, GPA and teacher recs were up to par.

Hope for the best for you both.

My sat scores suck. 540 reading and 600 math. :(

So do mine, so you’re fine! Did you get those from the March SAT? I took the March SAT as well, and it wasn’t too bad of a test, which I was so happy about.

Hoooo, it’s even harder to get in if you live in the Chicago area, which I luckily don’t.

My GPA isn’t a 4.0 though. I had like a 3.7… :D

P.S. 780 Math 630 Reading isn’t bad at all. It’s a full 100 more than I got. (I took the November test)

I took it in January. I don’t have a 4.0 for 8th grade because I got 3 Bs (teacher was super strict) but for all years I had a 4.0

What do you mean all years you had a 4.0? I had 2 Bs in 7th grade and 3 A-s 8th and 9th grade.
I’m only counting Math, Science, and English by the way, because that’s what’s counted.

My GPA is what’s really worrying me. I hope I show enough passion for math and science in my essays D:
I was rejected to Honors English about 5 minutes ago, so yeah. :P

Ohhhhhh. I got 2bs is literature and language arts last year. I meant all other years btw

My Bs were in Science and English, ugh. 7th grade was a terrible year for me.

Does anyone know how IMSA admissions even work though? I mean, I know the basics like Review Committee and stuff but how are people compared against each other? What factors are taken in to consideration?

OH OH I KNOW. PICK ME, PICK ME! Fair warning: all of the following I’ve heard from either IMSA, sheets from IMSA or just rumors lol

Basically I’m pretty sure the Review Committee (RC) are just going to read over essays and teacher recs and give a score. Then the selection committee is where they start rejecting. I think the order of importance is like SAT math, GPA, RC score, SAT reading (so obviously math SAT is the most important). And then we should get our letters, but I’m not sure completely.

That sounds believable. From what I know, Review Committee already met, right? From my knowledge, the Selection Committee should be meeting AS WE SPEAK. :c

I doubt they would do it on a Sunday afternoon though

Maybe not today, but every other day, haha. This is terrifying.

I’m actually not too sure when the selection committee will meet. I’m so scared as well, actually freaking out every day on the inside.

According to https://www.imsa.edu/admissions/howtoapply/admissionstimeline</a>, the Selection Committee meets early next month. From now until then they will be doing individual review.
