I know my GPA is not that great but what are my chances??

Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? Does it take into account grades in non-core courses? Are you in state or out of state? What is your intended major?

My son did not get into JMU last year. Had GPA of 3.67, had all honors classes plus two college dual enrollements courses - one of them taught specifically by JMU professors. ACT was 24 which was sorta low, but he had Nat. Hon. Society, Beta Club, Boys State, 3 varsity sports and co-captains on them and tons of community service. Just trying to prepare you that JMU is numbers driven, and to have a plan B in case JMU doesn’t work out. Perhaps you could transfer there later on.

@bravesgirl Some schools with reject you if they feel they’re your safety because a) it shows you whose boss b)it helps their yield statistics and c) they don’t want to give away a spot to someone who’s not gonna attend. Your son may have been a victim of that.

They have not published the common data set for 2010, but in 2009 over 62% of JMU admits had an ACT of 24 or higher and 47% had a GPA of 3.75 or higher. I heard that the numbers for 2010 are higher.

I believe the Dukette auditions are for admitted students only, so would not boost an application.

If a student is planning to declare a Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance, or Music concentration an audition is required and can help boost the admissions of a student who is within the JMU admit range academically. :)
