Chances of getting into Johns Hopkins?

I got a 1940 :(( :frowning: ~X( :-S

People should know that Hopkins admissions this year has become entirely a numbers game. If you’re deciding how to use your last days of application time, this is not a good investment unless you have a 4+ GPA and absolutely tip-top SATs or ACTs and subject tests. We are aware of an early decision applicant with the “right” numbers, classes and activities, and parents who are an alum and a tenured professor and one of the very most senior administrators in another school of the University, who was declined in early decision this year. The family was told decisions are hair-splits this year based on the numbers in applicant files because of the huge volume of high-scoring applicants.

@Spf365‌ - Thanks for your input!

I have been looking at score percentiles and they range from a 2120-2380. The 75th percentile score is 2260 and the 25th percentile score was 1980?

Can someone please explain how percentiles work and what these actually mean?
Also, im only 40 points away from the lowest percentile- does that mean that there’s still hope?

The percentiles for a school represent the “middle 50%” of (accepted) applicants. Thus, with your example, 25% of accepted applicants had scores of 1980 or below, and 25% of applicants (the 75% number) had scores of 2260 or higher.

If you are below the 25% number in your test scores, then you need something else to be correspondingly exceptional to make up for it. For example, are you a recruited lacrosse player?

@FCCDAD‌ - thank you for clarifying that!

-My school does not have many ECs available for its students - most of them are sports related and I am not at all athletic.

I only participate in/have participated 3-4 EC’s. I have been doing 2 of them since I was 10 years old (6+ years) and one of them I been doing for 1.5 years.

The other one I havent started yet (tutoring kids).

It is extremely difficult for me as JHU class EC’s as “important” but volunteer work and work experience as “considered”. I was planning on doing more volunteer work and work exp. because of the lack of activities at my school - will they not be as highly regarded as school EC’s?

I would also mention that i have had no leadership positions in any activity I do.
