So I've got kind of a weird story - I graduated HS in June, was intending on going to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but then withdrew towards the end of summer because I decided it wasn't right for me and I wanted to do something else before I went to school. So I've been working this past semester and took a few classes part time at the local university through their University College program (but not enough to be considered a transfer, obviously) and am leaving in February for a three month 'gap semester' program in Nepal and India. I realize I'm running pretty late on applying to schools, but hey, I gotta get it done before I leave..

So I'm applying to McGill, SUNY Buffalo, and UMass Amherst, and maybe a couple others. My final HS gpa was about a 3.0 I think, I got 2080 on my SATs (590 Math, 730 Reading, 760 Writing), and I'm taking the French and Literature SAT IIs at the end of the month. I took AP US History and AP Environmental Science in HS but didn't take either of the tests, though I did take mostly honors/higher level classes through the rest of HS..

The thing is, McGill is really looking like my top choice right now and I know they mainly look at grades/GPA...what do you think the chances are of me getting in/would it help writing a letter explaining grades or explaining the situation with the gap year?

Thanks :)
