chances of getting into MSU

I would like to know how good of a chance i have to get into Michigan State University. I have a 3.0 gpa and a 25 ACT score. I take AP and honors classes for the majority of my classes. By the end of my senior year I will have 5 years of advanced English classes including Eastern Michigan University English which is taught in my school for college credits. Im a member of Student Council and have won awards like Junior Coming Home Rep. I've also worked at an ice arena for about a year now and i know that might help me a little bit with EC activities

MSU isnt that tough to get in even though their stats seem surprisingly high.
I got in with those stats and got scholarships.
u should get in.

I really couldn't say if you were definitely in or not, but the best way to make sure you have a good chance is to APPLY EARLY. I applied really early, got in, my friend with the same grades applied later, and didn't.

The application makes you write a short statement, so maybe work on that a bit which will definitely help as well.

"MSU isnt that tough to get in even though their stats seem surprisingly high."

Actually, because of the increased applications and higher student standards, it is getting increasingly difficult to get in. Obviously not ivy-difficult, but more difficult than it was 5 years ago.

I have a friend with a 25 ACT and 3.0 who didn't get in. It was really weird and he got screwed and now has to go to Lansing Community College. However, he had taken only 1 AP class (which I think he got a C in the class and a 2 on the AP test) so his transcript was not as impressive as yours. You have a very good chance I would say. Can you list your AP/Honors classes you have taken?

Honors British Lit
AP World Literature
AP Sociology
Eastern Michigan English (Im taking senior year)
and History of War which is either an Honors or an AP class I forgot which, but im taking it next year.

^^ History of War isn't an AP class. Only classes that have Collegeboard AP tests affiliated with them can be considered AP. Otherwise, it is just honors.

So that Sociology class cannot be AP either.

And world literature??? Maybe that's AP English lit??

I think with those stats you will have a great chance at getting in.
Go Spartans!

wow i got in with only one AP class
but then my gpa and ACT scores were a lot higher
but i think you should have no problem if you are a MI resident. my friend got in w/ 2.7GPA and 23 ACT

im really worried about getting into msu myself actually. I have a 3.34 and a 23 ACT. im also from wisconsin as well

i've taken mostly hard classes throughout high school, i'm taking 5 college classes this year too

the only alumni relation i have is my great uncle who went there for his undergrad and grad and was in a fraternity too.

edit: i've also been in fbla, school play, football, and rugby throughout high school. won contests in the state for web page design. eagle scout too.

wow rugby in high school sounds like it would be really cool. Michigan doesnt have much of that.

does any body know the earliest you can apply to MSU?

yeah rugby is a blast. we took 2nd in state my sophomore year.

i believe the earliest is sometime in august

thats all i remember reading from their website

ahhh i really wanna go there :( i'm trying to not get my hopes up too much though

this goes with my newest thread

hmm.......im so worried about getting

3.4 and 23 ACT :</p>

smash u should get in. I would reccommend you take the SAT or ACT again to mayby raise it to a 25.

My brother had a 2.9 and a 21 on his ACT he got into MSU but for the Spring Semester and onward. So just apply early!

I got in with a 3.6 and a 27

I didnt have any AP classes and only took one honors class and that was my senior year.

What kind of EC's did you have?
