Chances of Getting into Neuroscience P.H.D programs

Hi, all I am currently a psychology undergraduate at UCR and I want to get a P.H.D in Neuroscience. I’m not really picky about where I go as long as I get the degree. I have an alright GPA mostly due to the fact that I tried to do pre-med for a little then decided it wasn’t for me. I have a 3.1 GPA and I’m in my junior year so I’m not sure how much more that will go up (considering that I will be applying the beginning of my senior year). I have a background in chemistry, organic chemistry, calculus, a lot of statistics, and biology. I did research my freshman year for the sociology department on campus, and I have been doing research in a lab for psychology since the start of my sophomore year and will continue in the same lab until I graduate. I have a job where I tutor high schoolers taking AP statistics and I am involved in many societies on campus and I was apart of the honors program for a few years at UCR. I have a few professors already that will give me letters of rec and I have a professor that is going to help me do a senior thesis. I will be taking the GRE at the end of summer and I am planning on taking a prep class for it as well as studying intensely all summer. I’m wondering if anyone who has gotten into a Neuroscience P.H.D program can tell me about their experience and maybe list some schools for me to consider (preferably California but I’m fine traveling). Thank you.

You’ll have to do a bit of research at your target schools to see if your GPA is in range. I am not familiar with Neuroscience PhD programs, but other sciences it seems like GPAs need to be closer to 3.5. Your personal statement and letters of recommendation will be key to admission. Do your professors have any schools to suggest to you, or places where they know faculty?
