Right now I'm really worried about getting into Northeastern University which is my dream school but also a reach. I'm a junior in high school right now, my GPA is 3.30 and my ACT score is a 25 but I'm trying to raise it. I live a little outside of Boston still in Massachusetts and come from a very highly ranked public school. My 11th grade schedule is:

Concert Band
Advanced Algebra and Trig
US History II Honors
Chemistry I
AP Psychology
World Literature
French IV

My schedule for next year (senior year) is:

Concert Band
Pre-Algebra
AP French
Independent study in music
British Literature
AP Government
Anatomy and Physiology

I do a lot of clubs and extracurriculars, have leadership positions, and have won awards:

Debate Club for 4 years
Science Olympiad Club 4 years, officer for 2 years
Co-President of French Club for 2 years
Co-President of Badminton Club for 3 years
Member of French National Honors Society for 3 years and Co-President for 1 year
Drum Major in marching band
Excellence in concert band award 10th and 11th grade
Excellence in french award 11th grade
Jazz Band member for 3 years including entrance into the most prestigious high school jazz competition in the country and also we traveled to China for 11 days last year doing shows in Beijing, Shanghai and Bengbu

I would really appreciate getting some of your guys' opinions. I'm still working on raising my tests scores because I know they're a little low. Thanks!

Hi, I’ll tell you my stats that I got into NEU with. I’m currently going into my sophomore year in the business school.

2150 SAT, 3.4 unweighed 3.8 weighted (hard magnet school from california), a good amount of extra curriculars: Student Government for 4 years (School Vice-President my senior year), Korean Club for 4 years, Swim team, Economics team, etc. etc.

Is the 3.3 GPA weighted or unweighted? Continue doing well during the next two school years and get solid grades (All A’s!!! you can do it!!).

As you mentioned before, your scores are indeed a bit low, so aim for a 29-32 ACT, if you’re going that way or around a 2000+ SAT.

Your extra-curriculars look solid.

The school is getting harder and harder to get into every year and we broke the top 50 rank barrier this year, so you definitely want to give it your best for the remaining two years in school! Make sure you get good grades, improve those scores, and write a good essay about maybe your passion or something. Chances should be very good if you do just that.

Good luck! Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply! The 3.3 is my unweighted GPA. It’s kinda hard to find out your weighted GPA at my school for some reason. And I’m going into my senior year in September so I only really have 1 year (2 months actually because I’m applying early action) to improve my grades. A 29 sounds about right to aim for on the ACT, but I really stink at standardized testing. Also I might plan to have a meeting with an admissions counselor from the university to talk about my courses, test scores, etc. Do you think that would increase my chances at all? Being realistic I’d probably be in the bottom 5 or 10% to be accepted but I really want to do everything I can to boost the chance of me getting in.

Definitely leaving a good impression through an admissions counselor looks good. Make sure it’s a GOOD one though haha. Showing interest in schools is pretty important in my opinion.

Right now, the best things would be to raise your scores as high as you can and have SOLID grades senior year.

Message me if you have further questions.
